On my Christmas list: A special Christmas gift guide for women (well, me)

Gift guides Parenting and life

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, and let tell you what, I’m fed up of slogging away writing gift guides for kids, and for partners. This time, I’m taking the glory. If you’re thinking of buying me a gift, then here are some ideas. Although, not these exact things – as I already have them.

But if you are searching for a gift for your friend, sister, daughter, wife, mistress, etc etc you might find it full of useful ideas, and discounts too.

It was a tough gig, but someone had to do it.

My special Christmas Gift Guide for 38 year old women called Fran

On my Christmas list: A special Christmas gift guide for women (well, me)

Everything in this list was sent to me, either for this guide or previously during the year, and it may contain affiliate links (so if you click and buy, I may receive a small commission, but it doesn’t affect what you pay). More about that here.

If you enjoyed this and you’re feeling generous, you can buy me a cup of tea or a glass of wine here.

If you’re feeling ultra generous, I also have an Amazon wishlist here.

Anyway, this is quite a long one, this, so if you’re looking for something specific you can jump straight to it:

Let’s start off with a pre-Christmas gift:

Gin advent calendar

Sadly I had to open up my L’Occitane calendar before November was even here, but this one is going to wait until it’s time to start the official countdown. Except for the one I opened earlier, to be nosey.

The 2021 ‘That Boutique-y Gin Company’ Gin Advent Calendar from Drinks by the Dram includes 24 different 30ml wax-sealed glass drams from nine different distilleries in four countries. The first one is cherry gin, and I can’t wait to give it a go – I reckon it would be lovely with a dash of prosecco!

On my Christmas list: A special Christmas gift guide for women (well, me)

This one costs £49.95 which isn’t bad for a dram a day! You can see all the advent calendars – and other Christmas suitable gifts – on the Master of Malt website.

Clothes, Shoes and Jewellery

Costume jewellery from PrimaBerry

PrimaBerry London is a UK-based sustainable online clothing and accessories store and their jewellery collection includes pieces made from cork and banana fibre, inspired by their travels.

I love this necklace and earrings set; they’re unique, loud and and so much fun.

They’re also really good value with the earrings costing £9.99 and the necklace costing £17.99. They also sell bamboo socks, cork notebooks, umbrellas and more.

Costume jewellery from Primaberry

You can see their whole shop here, and be sure to follow them on Instagram. You can even get 10% off with the code WHINGE.

To win your own set in any colour, go to ‘competitions‘ below.

Nordgreen Watch

I am a big fan of Nordgreen and their beautiful minimalist watches are right up my street. I love that you can mix and match the straps to change up your look, and I love even more the fact that the company are sustainable, ethical and donate to charity with every purchase.

I chose a different style of watch this time; the Philosopher in gun metal is a bit more chunky than the other styles I own (the Infinity and Unika), and I love the metal strap with it.

Their beautifully presented gift boxes with an extra strap included make a wonderful Christmas present; there are both men’s and women’s watches and you can find the whole range here.

Not only can you get 15% off on the Nordgreen website using the code WHINGE (that’s me!), but there is a free strap offer than you can access using the code WHINGEFS.

Lily Blanche Jewellery

I am OBSESSED with my new Lily Blanche Jewellery. It is so pretty and shiny and it makes me happy every time I catch my reflection, or look down at my hand (no, I’m not waiting til Christmas. Sorry!).

The ring is chunky and yet the blue topaz makes it delicate at the same time. It is meant to be the birthstone for December, but I didn’t really think much of my own birthstone, pink opal, which is just about the only colour I don’t like. I wish I could have a set in every other colour to match my outfits and my mood though!

Lily Blanche Jewellery

The birthstone jewellery collection comes in silver, gold or rose gold and you have the option to add an initial to the necklace to personalise it. A silver necklace with an 16 or 18 inch chain is £60, or £69 with the initial included.

The blue topaz cocktail ring isn’t actually part of the birthstone collection, but the ‘luminous’ collection. It costs £75 and is cut beautifully, reflecting the light. I absolutely intend to wear it as much as possible and I have my eyes on the matching earrings too!

Go to the Lily Blanche website, and follow them on Instagram where they share offers and competitions as well as new pieces.

Socks from Burlington

I firmly believe that Christmas isn’t Christmas without new socks, and Burlington socks are the shiz. Honestly, I know my socks and these are good socks. I can’t believe how happy getting socks through the post made me, but there we have it. I’m getting old and I do not care.

I have thrown out all my old socks (well, put them in the craft box because you just never know when Brownies will demand you bring socks in) because these socks are so comfy, and easy to put on, and have done brilliantly after washing and I don’t need stiff annoying socks in my life, I just don’t.

Socks from Burlington

You can buy Burlington socks directly from their website but also from Amazon and they cost around £13 per pair.

Boots from Wynsors

A new pair of boots is one of my favourite gifts; I guess it’s fair to say I’m a little obsessed with winter footwear!

These ‘Florence’ boots from Wynsors are Hush Puppies so I know they’ll be comfy and keep my feet warm all winter, and for many years to come; my favourite sandals are Hush Puppies as it happens, and they’re now heading on for 14 years old!

These boots are water resistant with fleece lining and a memory foam leather insole, and although they look like they lace up, they have a sneaky zip which means they’re much easier to put on. They’re very comfortable and look fab with jeans!

Hush Puppies boots from Wynsors

They currently cost £60 which is £30 below the RRP and this style, Florence, are also available in brown, although the Wynsors website has a load of Christmas gift ideas for women at really good prices.

L’Occitane facial skincare products

Since forever, I’ve coveted L’Occitane’s beautiful products and these are some of my absolute favourites.

No one likes the aging process and let’s face it, no face cream is going to be able to reverse multiple decades of too much boozing and way too little sleep, but I do swear by L’Occitane skin care products – and in particular the Immortelle range – which definitely help to make my skin feel and look more radiant, plumper and just generally nicer.

L'Occitane products gifts for women and mums

I’m also a huge fan of their beauty products and scents; the rose scent is an old favourite, and I’ve recently been sent the mint and Verbena which is so lovely and fresh. I’ve recently reviewed the L’Occitane Classic Beauty Advent Calendar and if you can get your hands on one of these you really should!

You can check out the L’Occitane website here.

OBAGI-CRX System C-cleansing gel

This Cleansing Gel cleans, conditions and prepares the skin for better penetration of your moisturiser or other skincare products. It effectively removes make up, oil and other crud that makes its way onto your face during the day and it leaves your skin feeling smooth and fresh, without being dry or tight, which I have found some cleansers do.

It contains ‘professional strength’ vitamin C which can help prevent accelerated aging caused by the sun, etc. Other ingredients include hydroquinone which is used to make skintone more even, L-asorbic acid which defends against free radicals and promotes collagen production and aloe barbadensis leaf juice, which soothes and hydrates the complexion.

The OBAGI-CRX System C-cleansing gel contains 180ml of products and you only need a very small amount to lather onto your face before rinsing off so will last for ages! It costs £33.48 from Skinstation.

Dr Dennis Gross C+ Collagen Deep Cream

After travelling a lot, my skin has really dried out, but this vitamin C collagen moisturiser from Dr Dennis Gross is the absolute business.

Key ingredients include 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid (or vitamin C) which penetrates deep into the skin to minimise and prevent the appearance of hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, Collagen Amino Acids which are plant-sourced collagen, keeping your skin plump and youthful, and seed and grain oils (Camellia Japonica (Tsubaki), Rice Bran, and Sunflower Seed) which provide intense hydration and nourishment to your skin.

Dr Dennis Gross C+ Collagen Deep Cream

It’s a pure luxury item, and it makes your skin look ‘glowy’ and more importantly feel fresh very hydrated! You can buy it for £77 from Skinstation, which also stocks the rest of the Dr Dennis Gross range, a range of cruelty free skincare created by a leading dermatologist.

For the home

Echor sleep candle

Give the gift of sleep this Christmas; new company Echor launched during lockdown with a line of luxury, science-backed products designed to help people create a relaxing evening routine and aid a restful night’s sleep.

Some of the products the offer include a pillow mist, a wellness journal and this beautiful soy wax End of Day Candle in a glass container with wooden lid. It contains essential oils which not only smell amazing but are said to aid a peaceful night’s sleep and has a burn time of 60+ hours.

Echor sleep candle

The candle sells for £24.99 on the Echor website.

To win an ‘Echor end of day duo’ (50ml Pillow Spray and ‘End of Day’ Candle), go to ‘competitions‘ below.

Coasters from Printster

Awwww! These coasters from Printster cost £9.99 for four different designs, and you can even upload the pics directly from your social media accounts. I chose eight of my favourite Instagram posts and it was really simple to do. I’m so pleased with how they have come out, I can’t wait to park my cuppa on my face.

I also got myself a couple of pictures which I can’t wait to put in my new house; these were £16.95 each and they’re really high quality printing.

The website also offers socks, magnets, keyrings, mugs, facemasks… Anything you can stick a picture on really! Take a look here, and make sure to enter the competition below where I have a £30 voucher to give away!

ARRAN Sense of Scotland Reed Diffuser

A beautiful gift for anyone that likes to make their home welcoming, this Amber Wood reed diffuser is scented with spiced woods and amber, a cosy fragrance blend which is warming and perfect for winter.

All the way from the Island of Arran in Scotland, it comes with ten reeds and a 200ml bottle of fragrance; you’re advised to rotate the reeds every few days to keep the scent fresh and intense.

The reed diffusers from Arran Sense of Scotland cost £33, you can get many different scents as well as candles and room mists if you like something more subtle than a reed diffuser. Take a look at the choices on their website here.

A waving gnome

If you don’t have a solar waving queen gnome then quite frankly you need one.

There’s not that much more to say on that one. She (and her trusty tail-wagging corgi) is made by Kikkerland, and you can buy her from Amazon.

A candle from My Sainted Aunt

Nothing is more festive than Saint Dolly. This candle from My Sainted Aunt is one of a huge collection of celebrities that have been ‘sainted’. If you have a favourite (or a least favourite) celebrity they’re probably there!

The candles cost £19 and you can get three for the price of two. They also sell canvas prints, cushions, cocktails, hand sanitisers… Loads of stuff. Go check out their website to see the whole saintly range.

Flowers from Eflorist

What do you get for the person who goes out and buys all the things she wants? Eflorist courier beautiful themed bouquets of flowers next day to your recipient. Choose from a small, medium or large bunch and even add chocolates if you fancy.

The ‘Snowfall’ Christmas bouquet pictured above is currently priced from £25.99 for a small bunch with white chrysanthemums, white roses, thistles, gold pine cones and finished with festive foliage. Other Christmas bouquets are on sale from £19.99. They come all ready to bloom in the recipient’s home and bring some festive sparkle.

Food and Drink

If you can’t give the gift of sleep, then coffee is the next best thing. Hundred House Coffee is a Shropshire-based company which offers speciality coffee, ethically sourced from eco-conscious growers from around the world using sustainable practices.

They offer ground coffee and beans, both blends which are full of character and single origin coffees.

I’ve tried some of their more festive blends and they certainly do perk you up – especially the chocolate bomb espresso!

The coffees come in two sizes – 227g and 1kg and cost from £6.50. You can see the whole range of coffees to buy through their online shop here.

PepperBox Shiraz

Not a coffee drinker? How about a nice warming glass of red. I usually go for very easy drinking reds, and on first sip I thought it was a little sharp but actually it was lovely as my palate warmed to it. It was perfect with a rich spaghetti Bolognese.

You can buy PepperBox Shiraz at Tesco, where it’s currently on offer for £8, usually £10 per bottle.

Prosecco from La Gioiosa

Or maybe a prosecco is more your thing?

One of my favourite Proseccos to pick up from the local Co-Op, La Gioiosa Treviso Prosecco Brut is perfect for festive bubbles – as we all know it is absolutely legit to have bucks fizz for breakfast on Christmas day.

It retails at around £10 and you can get it from lots of supermarkets including Tesco, Co-Op and Morrison’s, as well as Ocado and Majestic Wine Warehouse.

Nature’s Health biscuits

As far as Christmas presents go, in my opinion food is never the wrong option.

This beautiful tin of Island Bakery biscuits is a bit posher than your average ginger nut. These date and walnut shortbreads are buttery and divine and they come in a pretty presentation tin which can be kept and used again and again, long after the biscuits have been eaten.

These biscuits available to buy at Natures Health Box for £7.59 including the tin, and you can buy the whole range of Island Bakery biscuits there too from £2.49 a packet.

Red Letter Days experience box

Not sure what to go for? For £49.99 you can buy a Merry Christmas gift experience box for an individual or a couple, and the recipient/s can then decide how and where they want to use it.

There are literally thousands of experiences for one or two people available to choose from – from spa days and meals out to afternoon tea and scuba diving – which can be redeemed at the recipient’s leisure. You can see the available experiences online.

I’m torn between afternoon tea and a spa day, although a three course meal at Zizzi is also tempting. Red Letter Days are are donating 10% of sales of their Merry Christmas Gift box to Child Poverty Action Group until Christmas.

Check out Red Letter Days website for more Christmas gift inspiration!

Gin tasting by post from Letterbox Gifts

I like gin, I like post. Letterbox gifts deliver you a gin tasting right to your house with no risk of coming home to an annoying ‘while you were out’ collection card.

Inside the box are four perfectly blended British gins with complementary botanicals to garnish and infuse your drink. Over lockdown, these were very popular as you could deliver them to friends and do a Zoom gin tasting, but just because we can go out now doesn’t mean we want to and I quite like the idea.

The Gin Tasting Letterbox gift set costs £37 and you can buy it from their website here.

Stocking fillers

Personalised mug

A mug is the perfect Secret Santa gift as we all know, particularly at the rate I seem to break them in the dishwasher. The lovely ladies at The Perfect Touch of Home designed and sent me this mug which is fun and festive and I will be drinking all my tea and coffee in it and hoping I don’t clumsily smash it like the rest.

They have a whole range of clothing, homeware and gifts and it’s a lovely website to scroll for inspiration! You can see their personalised range here. Personalised mugs cost £13.99, and you can upload your own photos or design.

To win a mug of your choice from TPTOH, go to ‘competitions‘ below.

A good book

Mums don’t generally get much time to read but I do always like to have something on the go, particularly when travelling or waiting around for things.

Sentenced by Andrew Hawke and Victoria Oak
Sentenced by Andrew Hawke and Victoria Oak

Both of these very different books; one a memoir, one a romantic novel, come with excellent Amazon reviews and although I’m only half way through Sentenced so far, which is told from the perspective of a Putney housewife and a drug smuggling prisoner in Thailand, I’ve found it compelling and moving and have been picking it up at every opportunity!

You can buy Sentenced on Kindle and paperback here, and Half the World Away here.

I have a copy of both to giveaway, so enter below if you’d like to win either of these novels!

Tile key and wallet finder

If you are someone that constantly ‘misplaces’ their wallet and keys (or has them stored away by a helpful toddler) and ends up running around long after you should have left for the school run trying to locate them, then the Tile key and wallet ‘Performance Pack’ is a brilliant gift.

It allows you to track your belongings via your mobile phone so you can be on time (or almost). Use the Tile app to ring your Tile Pro (the small key attachment) when it’s within 400 ft and your credit-card sized Tile Slim when it’s within 200 ft.

The Performance Pack has an RRP for £49.99 and you can see the range on their website, or buy on Amazon.
