It’s Pimty Tare once more in this house! Two whole years have passed since I last published a birthday gift guide for boys.
This year, he is turning five – and I thought it would be a nice thing to do, given that lockdown is happening, he is still off school and there won’t be a pimty, to put together a brilliant list of gifts for him for his fifth birthday.
Here are some ideas for fifth birthday presents for boys which cost less than £15.

(As an aside, my daughter has very different taste; you can see the gift guide I wrote for her fifth birthday here. Whilst I totally agree that you should let toys be toys, I have long conceded defeat with my two in this regard. They like what they like).
SuperZings
My son flipping LOVES SuperZings from Magic Box Toys. They cost as little as 80p each and the new play sets are £15 and we have had a lot of fun with them.

Orchard Toys Magic Spelling game
Orchard Toys are fantastic making educational games suitable from toddlerhood, and we’ve been big fans for a long time. This Magic Spelling game is a stage up from the games we already have which is suitable for primary school children aged 5+.
In this game you pick a card, then find the words to make it using the magic wand and put the word together before your time is up.
It’s available for £12.99 online.

Batmobile and Batman mystery collectibles
When Spinmaster announced that they would be releasing Batman toys I was very excited, because Batman is my son’s favourite superhero!
The new range of Batman toys is suitable for children aged 3+ and perfect for smaller superhero fans.
Part of the new range is this transforming Batmobile, a two part vehicle with a removable Batboat for underwater missions.
It’s sturdy and perfect for the new 4-inch collectible figures to fit inside.
These are great; for just £7.99 each you get a fully poseable 4 inch figure with 11 points of articulation, three mystery accessories and a collector card.
The Batmobile is currently priced £14.99 at Amazon and the figures can be bought from most toy shops including Smyths, The Entertainer, Tesco, Asda, and Argos.
Cat Toys Sand Set
We recently reviewed some CAT Toys sand sets and they’re definitely worthy of a mention here.
Each set come with a vehicle (digger or dumper truck) as well as a scoop and and hard hat for use in a sandpit. They are great outdoor toys which will no doubt come into their own over the summer and they have an RRP of £14.99 for each set.
Thunderbirds Are Go Toys
I was blissfully unaware that Thunderbirds had been remade for the 21st century, until recently when we went on a playdate and my son was introduced to the world of Thunderbirds Are Go toys.
Thunderbird One has retractable wings and makes sounds when you press the button on the front.
Thunderbird Two is big enough for a 10cm Virgil Tracy (included) to sit inside. It comes with a retractable grapple hook and makes sounds when the button is pressed. It doesn’t however come with T4 inside it.
The 30cm action figures are my favourites; with five phrases, lights and a removable rescue claw, Virgil Tracy is articulated and fully poseable.
The Mechanic comes with a weapon which shoots projectiles as well as being equipped with lights and sounds. The RRP on these is £14.99 and I am sure that they will be well played with.
Whoopee Doo
Is there anything a five year old boy finds funnier than farting? I suspect not.
‘Whoopee Doo’ combines a challenge game with a hilarious farting whoopee cushion.
Inflate the whoopee cushion, sit down and press the button to start the timer. Can you complete the challenge before it makes a noise?
Simple, but I’m sure he is going to love it. The RRP is is £23, but it’s currently available for £13 online.
Bakugan
We reviewed the Bakugan Armored Alliance Battle Arena here and really enjoyed it; if lockdown hadn’t started and all the shops weren’t shut I dread to think how many we’d have by now!
Bakugan can be purchased individually or in packs and prices start from £6.99 and the Bakugan Armored Alliance Battle Arena has an RRP of £24.99.
Personalised Perfect Pet Dinosaur book
The Gift Experience have a fabulous selection of birthday gifts for boys and girls for any budget, many of which can be personalised for your child.

Outdoor toys from Wicked Vision
With a summer birthday, outdoor toys are always a great birthday present idea! Wicked Vision sent us some to have a play with.
The Mega Jump is an adjustable skipping rope with quality ball-bearing axles for smooth spins. The Mega Jump is 3m long and has an RRP of £7.99.
The aim of the UKick is to keep it up in the air. It has six discs on the base which can be removed. With one disc it stays in the air easily which is perfect for beginners but the more discs you add, the quicker the UKick falls!
