It’s Pimty Tare once more in this house! Two whole years have passed since I last published a birthday gift guide for boys and this year he is turning FIVE.

Fabulastic books
These pop up books are absolutely wonderful; a true delight. Handmade in Spain and available in six languages they are an absolute joy to read and discover.
Wonderfully illustrated and extremely cleverly designed by an incredible paper engineer, the adventure really pops right out of the book.
And, of course, they’re personalised; you choose your character’s appearance and name.
Although they’re suitable from three years old I’d say five is the perfect age to appreciate the magic of Fabulastic books.

Magformers Amazing Rescue Set
We first became familiar with Magformers on my son’s first birthday and they have been played with consistently over the past four years!
Magformers are great fun; each kit contains shaped magnets that you can slot together to create 3D shapes. This 50 piece kit comes with all the pieces you need (24 magnetic pieces, 2 characters and emergency vehicle accessories) to build a fire engine among other things.
It’s suitable for children as young as three although I think it will be perfect for my five year old who will be able to follow the step by step instructions to build his own vehicles. This set has an RRP of £49.99.

Personalised Spideman Book
My son’s love of superheroes has been wildly encouraged by his father; he had no chance really. As well as a plethora of superhero action figures, he has a Spiderman Beginnings personalised book to open on his fifth birthday.
This retails at £17.99 including presentation box; it features a personalised message, your child’s name throughout as well as an image of them at the back if you choose.

Sylvanian Families
We love Sylvanian Families, however until now it’s been my daughter who has shown an interest and therefore has an extensive collection.
Recently, the two of them have been watching the Netflix show together and now my son has requested some Sylvanians of his own so that he can play too!
The family of cute fluffy little Hedgehogs has an RRP of £17.99 and the Family Saloon car, which comes with car seat, trays and a picnic for them to share is £21.99.

Smashers Epic Dino Egg
One of my son’s favourite toys this year has been the Smashers Epic Dino Egg; so much so that he has asked for another in the set. Luckily there are three different dinos to collect!

Orchard Toys World Map Jigsaw
We are big fans of Orchard Toys. The games and puzzles are bright and fun and made from really good quality cardboard. If you lose a piece they’ll even replace it for you!
We have a lot of games aimed at slightly younger children which we do still play with, but there are also a good variety available from age 5.
We chose this World Map 150 piece jigsaw which comes with a giant poster, which retails at £15.50.

Beaker Creatures Whirling Wave Reactor
Learning Resources make hands-on educational toys for kids. We have a science kit and a microscope at home and were sent this Beaker Creatures Whirling Wave Reactor kit which he’ll be getting for his birthday; it combines a bit of science with collectable creatures which I know my son is going to love!
The ‘pods’ are a bit like bath bombs (although not suitable for the bath). Placed in the whirling reactor they fizz away while you wind the crank to reveal your creature! Just like any collectable you can find rare ones; inside the Whirling Wave Reactor is a special colour change Beaker Creature.

Paw Patrol
We have basically every Paw Patrol toy under the sun, except for the Sea Patroller and the Paw Patroller.
So, uh, what he’s getting for his birthday from his grandparents are the Sea Patroller and the Paw Patroller.
So Sand DIY Case
Sand is something I can take in small doses, however the kids love it. It’s more palatable to me as a parent than slime, and cutting sand is said to be extremely therapeutic – it’s definitely popular on Youtube!
This So Sand case comes with three bags of sand, colours and glitter decorations and six tools to mould, chop and cut the sand in satisfying ways, all stored inside a handy carry case which stacks and slots together for easy storage.
We opened this up on a rainy day and my two have played (harmoniously!) for hours and hours; cutting and shaping the sand. It seems it is rather addictive and it’s not proven too messy either.

Mega Bounce XL from Wicked Vision
The Mega Bounce XL ball from Wicked Vision posed a little problem for this gift guide, as with a 251cm circumference it was too big to hide… so we relented and let him have it a little bit early!
It comes with a footpump and a measuring tape so you can blow it up to the right size, and you think it will never go that big… but it does. It has super grip graphics so it’s easy to hold and catch and throw.
Unfortunately our first ball burst along the seam in less than an hour so we were sent another and touch wood, this one has so far provided us with much more bouncing fun.
