June 2024: A sunny month with a big plot twist

June started out OK. The weather improved and we’ve been in the garden loads, the kids (and I) have been healthier so I’ve managed to get back to the gym. I’ve even started running a little bit outside with the dog. Everything just seems a bit easier when the sun is out. Also, it looks very much like we only have a few days left of the horrible Tory government which has brought a spring to my step.

But what else has been happening?

(You can read January’s here, February’s here, March’s here, April’s here and May’s here)

It was Izzy’s birthday

My lovely doggo turned two years old, and obviously we celebrated in a totally normal way – with a special doggy birthday cake made from dog food and iced with blue mashed potato.

Every time I’m a little bit sad, I watch the video again and it cheers me right up.

I got even more obsessed with Vinted

I started using Vinted to sell clothes when I moved in to this house to try and slim down my bulging wardrobe, and I joined a few Vinted groups. Reading the mental exchanges going on there became one of my highlights of Facebook. I decided to collate the most unhinged exchanges that people posted into a blog post, which you can read here.

The robot vacuum cleaner vanished

I honestly started to doubt my own sanity after two days. I’d looked EVERYWHERE – under every sofa and chair – and no dice.

My pleas for the robot vacuum to return even went viral on Twitter. I will never understand that place.

I was unprofessional AGAIN

Seem to be making a habit of this. Oops.

Them:

Me:

You can get my necklace from Topple and Burn!

No, I don’t want to ‘name and shame’ – I told them what I thought but by ‘outing them’ it might make other brands think I’m a potential trouble maker (as if!). I do need the odd person to pay me occasionally.

I was on the telly

Fame at last! Kind of.

One of my throwaway Facebook comments was pictured on Sky news on a section about how much the Tories have been spending on social media marketing and how badly it’s going for them. Honestly doesn’t matter what platform you’re on. It’s embarrassing. I can’t wait for them to slink off into obscurity in a few days, I honestly can’t.

For what it’s worth, I don’t believe you have to go to university to succeed in life but you shouldn’t be denied the option just because the government think your choice of degree isn’t worthy. Fuck ’em. I cannot WAIT

(Thanks to my kids’ favourite cartoon guy Jamie Smart for pointing this out to me. He’s a good follow on Twitter, even if you’re not a 9 year old).

There was a huge plot twist

It appears my claim that I would never move house again was sorely misguided, and, after living here for all of 15 months, my partner and I are going our separate ways. Emotionally, I feel entirely flat. I was totally blindsided.

Practically, I’m pretty scared about what’s to come. Being self employed is all fine and dandy until you’re trying to find somewhere to live and persuade a bank to lend you money to pay for it. Quite frankly the thought of having to deal with estate agents again gives me a stress headache, let alone the arse ache and the cost of the move itself. I’d quite like to hibernate and wake up when it’s all over.

However, rather than concentrating on the bad, I want to use this as an opportunity to say a massive thank you to the brilliant and amazing friends that have reached out and rallied round, listened to me, cried down the phone with me, danced with me, made me tea and reminded me that life goes on. I love every single one of you, and I am so grateful to you for your love and care.

Onwards to the next adventure.

If you enjoyed this and you’re feeling generous, you can buy me a cup of tea or a glass of wine – or donate to my houseplant addiction fund – here.

  1. It’s a sad plot twist about your partner, but at least you have your robot hoover back. Focus on the good news.

    That’s some plot twist!

Time to enter ‘f^*k it’ mode and plough on into a brighter future. Start a podcast…it’s cathartic!

I wish you all the very best for the future. 🍷

I have two iRobots, both of which have decided that they wish to retire. I believe they are conspiring for me to purchase a further series of iRobots all of which will at some point cease to function. Then, at an opportune moment, reanimate and try to take over North Wales and possibly beyond.
To prevent this, I’ve kept them on the landing as they can’t navigate the stairs. A wise move I think.
Very best wishes to you on your plot twist. Don’t let the iRobots grind you down.

  4. I hope your July is brighter – tomorrow is already looking like a good day with less blue around!

Blimey Fran, that is an absolute stinker of a plot twist, I am glad you have people around to hold you up.
Obviously we don’t know each other but I’ve been following you for so long that I know you are my kind of person. You also created the only FB parenting group that has ever been any good for me.
Don’t ever let your fire go out.
    Much love x
