You don’t need me to tell you that this year, the weather has been totally weird.
Unrelenting weeks of unseasonable snow were followed by long periods of stifling heat, seemingly missing out the best season of all (spring, since you were wondering).
It almost has me looking forward to autumn (and, as you may know, I’m not a huge fan). After such a hot summer, I’ve started fantasising about being cold… wrapping up warm, wearing boots and jumpers and snuggling down under duvets . without sweating my toenails off.
Now is actually a great time to look forward to autumn and pick out a few pieces which you can have ready for the colder weather to hit.
I’ve been looking at new women’s coats and jackets for autumn and winter in readiness!
I mean, we all deserve a treat for surviving the summer holidays, right?!
Here are are my top women’s jackets and coats which are perfect for autumn/winter 2018.
Which is your favourite?
For autumnal days
Esprit have a huge range of beautiful women’s jackets suitable for all seasons. Straight on my wishlist is this!

This beautiful wool hooded jacket from Esprit is definitely number one on my list, and costs £125.
Why I love it:
I love the autumnal colour (although it’s also available in blue, pink and grey) and even more than that, I love that it has HUGE pockets and a zip that goes all the way up.
The length is really flattering and the shaping means you don’t have to look like a sack of potatoes.
It’s not one for the depths of winter, with a 1/3 rating, but it should be perfect for September and October to take the edge off of the chilly school run.
Wear with:
A contrasting high-neck jumper, jeggings and knee high boots.

For cold winter mornings

For when the winter truly sets in, this Regatta warm parka coat has a quilted and faux-fur lining and costs £100.
Why I love it:
This is a brilliantly practical coat; it’s waterproof and has proper insulation for when it’s cold and wet. The faux-fur trim will keep you feeling snuggled on the miserable winter school run but the mid-thigh length is flattering and still on-trend. It’s got great sized pockets and will last you for years.
Wear with:
Whatever is warm! Knee high boots for very cold days and a chunky knit cable jumper if it’s snowing!
Or if you prefer something a bit brighter…

This mustard-coloured parka from New Look is perfect if khaki isn’t your thing; it’s also available in red with a grey faux fur trim! It costs just £54.99.
Why I love it:
I love the colour! There is no fading into the crowd in this coat. It’s practical too; I have this in last season’s khaki and it’s just so warm. It has a zip and popper and although it doesn’t state it’s waterproof, mine has always kept me dry.
Wear with:
Layers! The website suggests going for a plain tee, jeans and chunky trainers but add a chunky knit jumper and boots if it’s cold and you’ll still look fab.
For going out

If you have a special occasion and you want to stay warm but look great, his red rose wool belted coat from Monsoon is perfect for keeping the chill off and being flattering too! It costs £120.
Why I love it:
The striking colour means you’ll stand out, although it’s also available in pastel pink if you aren’t a fan of bright colours. Personally I love the bright red! It’s made from a soft Italian wool blend and will see you right through with a warm jumper underneath, or over a t-shirt to keep the chill off in as autumn sets in. The side pockets perhaps aren’t the most practical but they will mean a flattering silhouette; get a black clutch to hold your phone and wallet.
Wear with:
Crew neck jumper, statement necklace, jeans and suede loafers.

To stand out
What about something a bit different? I love a leather jacket, and these cool jackets will definitely draw attention.

Why I love it:
Leather is a material that never goes out of fashion, but these are a bit different to the classic leather bomber and will make you stand out. They’re perfect for spooky season!
Wear with:
Leather trousers or skinny jeans, and big buckled boots.
