Zuru Smashers Giant Epic Dino Smash Egg: 25 dino surprises!

Smashers are small collectibles made by toymaker Zuru. We have previously reviewed the GROSS! Smashers; little eyeballs that smash apart when you drop them on a hard surface to reveal a little rubber collectible inside and they proved a hit with my collectible-mad kids.

Dino Smashers are mystery collectibles in little orange dinosaur eggs which, like the previous series, break apart to reveal a small dinosaur or fossil figure.

The Epic Dino Egg is a giant Smashers egg filled with surprises!

An entertaining alternative to a chocolate Easter egg, the Zuru Smashers Epic Dino Egg contains 25 surprises including a dinosaur skeleton which you must find and put together as well as six of the smaller eggs.

The egg is a similar size to the Rainbocorns egg which are also made by Zuru.

Smashers Dino Egg and Rainbocorns

To open the Smashers Epic Dino Egg, you have to remove the plastic wrap and then find a suitable place to smash it into four pieces – with a little practice, these go back together again just like the miniature eggs do.

Inside is a bag full of dinosaur surprises!

Inside your Smashers Epic Dino Egg get:

  • Dino dirt
  • Glowing slime
  • Ice age putty
  • Fizzy lava
  • Fossil rock and hammer
  • Six small dinosaur smashers eggs
  • A nest

There is also a collector’s list and a scratch-off map to help you find the pieces you need to assemble your dinosaur!

The dino dirt, glowing slime, ice age putty, fizzy lava and fossil rock each contain parts of a dinosaur skeleton which you put together to create one of three Smashers dinos.

(Note that you can tell which dinosaur you’ll get by the colour of the bone on the egg! We got the green bone which meant we built Crazy Bone the Brachisaurus).

Here is how you build your Smashers Dinosaur!

Dino dirt

The dino dirt is like kinetic sand and I would advise getting a tub to pour it into to stop it going everywhere.

Once the dino bones have been found you can keep the sand by resealing the bag.

Fizzy Lava

fizzy lava

The unwrap the fizzy lava and place it in a bowl of water (we used the base of the Smashers Egg) where it will fizz to reveal more dino bones!

Glowing slime

Again a tub to pour the slime into is a good idea although you can reseal it in the packet it comes in. It’s not too sticky thankfully!

Fossil Rock

The fossil rock needs to be smashed apart to reveal the bones hidden inside. Once again, a tub is a good idea to limit the mess or do it outside if you can!

fossil rock

Use the axe contained in the pack to smash the rock apart and find the buried bones.

Ice age putty

The final pieces of dinosaur skeleton come hidden inside the blue egg of ice age putty.

Once you have all excavated all the pieces, you can put your dinosaur together using the instructions as a guide. Depending on the age of your child, they might need a hand with this.

Finding and building the dinosaur was great fun and kept the kids busy and entertained for ages. The slime, putty and sand can all be kept and, if sealed properly, can be reused and the dinosaur you get at the end is pretty cool. You can move his jaw and his limbs and we’ve been making short stop motion videos with him!

My smallest already wants the triceratops version for his birthday.

After you’ve put your dino together there are still six eggciting Smashers Series 4 Dino eggs to hatch.

In our eggs we found three rare dino fossils, and a super rare Skull Smasher, Num Skull.

The eggs are recyclable and reusbale although I’d recommend using blue tac or sellotape to help you get them back together.
