Despite always being at my computer or otherwise having a device in my hand, I do still so love a notebook.
I would much rather make a physical to-do list and cross out each individual item, a shopping list, food diary or just brainstorm on paper as opposed to a screen.
The only problem is that the notes usually then stay on the paper, never to be read again. In the case of my shopping lists they’re usually left at home on the side while I stand in Aldi trying to remember what we need.
The Rocketbook Everlast could be the answer!
The Rocketbook Everlast reusable digital notebook is a clever little multi-page notebook on which you can hand write your notes on the special paper, then use the Rocketbook app to scan them.
The free Rockebook app uploads notes directly to your cloud service (Google Docs, Dropbox etc) and also emails you a copy as a PDF. You can then wipe clean the page and start over again, meanwhile your notes are stored securely.
Rocketbook’s Handwriting Recognition OCR (Optical Character Recognition) will even turn your handwritten notes into text.
We were sent an A4 and an A5 Rocketbook Everlast reusable notebook to put to the test.
Available in four different colours, black, blue, red and teal, each Rocketbook Everlast comes with a microfibre cloth which you dampen to wipe the notebook clean and one compatible, wipeable Pilot Frixion pen.
These pens can be bought from anywhere (including Amazon, above) and come in a range of colours so if you want to make multi-coloured notes or use the book for doodles you can do.
Be aware that some colours scan into the app less well, but if you just want to give the kids something to write on which you can wipe away to save on paper, then it might do just the trick.
Writing on the Rocketbook Everlast’s digital paper is easy.
It has no lines but a dotted grid to guide your writing. The pages have a slightly plasticy feel to them but it is for all intents and purposes it’sthe same as writing on a normal, paper notepad.
The notebooks have 32 pages meaning you can comfortably make a day or even a week’s worth of notes before scanning them and uploading them.
The notes wipe off cleanly and easily with a damp cloth leaving no trace of behind; if you leave the notes on a long time they may leave a faint ghost mark behind so it’s advisable to clean your notebook fully each week.
I found the Rocketbookapp very easily to install and use.
The documents were very easy to scan, rename etc.
Before scanning each page, you can mark at the bottom one of seven categories and the app will store it in the correct location on the cloud.
Handwriting recognition
Part of the draw for the Rocketbook Everlast is that Handwriting Recognition software which will transcribe your notes into text. For those that minute meetings or want to draft blog posts, for example, this is a very exciting prospect.
But does it work?
Predictably, the software will have a hard time understanding cursive, and my non-cursive writing is pretty abysmal but none the less I had a go, and was fairly impressed with how it turned out.
It’s not perfect, but it would make life a lot easier if drafting on to paper first.
