Everyone knows that moving to a new house is both stressful and exciting. Here are some top tips for selling your house, fast.
Now is the time to de-clutter
The first and most obvious thing to do in order to sell you house quickly is make it easy for people to imagine how they would live in the space by making it as clear as possible.
Yes, you live there. But the people coming to view your home might not want to if they see piles of folded laundry, the kids’ toys strewn all over the floor and your magazine collection piled precariously high in the corner or the dining room…Take a little time to tidy up and declutter.
I have friends who have shoved everything in the back of their car each time someone calls round, but you can take this a step further, and clear out any excess furniture etc by renting a storage space, such as Now Storage self storage in Reading. Invest in a little kerb appeal
Improving curb appeal can make a strong first impression and significantly influence a property’s perceived value. Don’t worry, you don’t have to splash out on a new driveway. Kerb appeal simply means making your property look good from the street. Which to any potential buyer – is crucial.
You want the “good vibes” from your home to start from the moment they see it. So, it’s time to tidy up those borders, sweep the path, pull up those weeds and trim those overgrown bushes. If you’re no good at gardening, then remove any dead plants and buy a couple of fully loaded planters to place on either side of your front door. Or add a hanging basket or two to really introduce some colour. That flimsy door knocker – fix it. Wonky house number – replace. Gutters and drains full of leaves – clean them up!
If your front door has seen better days, then consider giving it a lick of paint. And if your car is on the drive, why not give it a wash? Potential buyers have positive expectations for the interior of your home, if the exterior is in good condition.
Don’t hang around!
I’ve been to house viewings before where the owner followed me around…I suppose they wanted to be on hand for any questions I might have had. But I simply wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible!
In the case of house viewings – less is more, so be there to greet them if you have to be but otherwise leave it to the Estate Agent – and stay out of the way!
Your garden
An orderly, well-kept garden or yard is a must. You don’t have to be green fingered to pull it off, just make sure the area is clear and tidy, and any large shrubs which might make it appear smaller are cut back.
It might be worth investing in a few hours of a gardeners’ time if you don’t have the time or necessary equipment to do this yourself, as a decent outdoor space can make or break a sale!
