This is a collaborative post: When you become a mum, makeup becomes one of the last priorities. As looking after the children often takes up most of your day, ‘me time’ usually goes out the window. But it shouldn’t be that way! You deserve to treat yourself sometimes and to feel good always. Why can’t you have the best of both worlds?
For those mums out there that don’t like heavy makeup, but still want to feel fresh, there are options that will make you feel good (even if it feels like the kids have taken all of the energy out of you!). Everyone is beautiful in their own way, but if you want a little touch-up for the times when you feel that the bags under your eyes can’t drop any lower, natural-looking makeup is the way forward.
Start with good skin
Art is only as good as the canvas, but tired skin is often not good skin. Drinking plenty of water is a quick cheat to better skin, but if you’re looking for a product to help then an at-home peel or exfoliating AHA serum will help you achieve natural dewy look by removing dead skin cells and promoting plumping collagen production.
Save time
Instead of putting on mascara each morning, a natural looking eyelash extension can save time and make you look less tired when you wake up! Semi-permanent eyebrows, eyeliner and lipliner can also save you time in the morning but they can work out expensive, depending on where you have them done and your normal make up routines.
Buying make up doesn’t have to be expensive
When it comes to purchasing makeup, you don’t need to spend all your money on an expensive brand.
Cheaper makeup can be just as good and they are a fraction of the price – especially when it comes to more natural looking products. For those on a budget (I mean who isn’t?), it’s always a good idea to shop around online for products or have a look when you pop into Boots (or whatever beauty retailer you shop at).
For the natural look, finding a good base product is the first step. A primer that is suited to your skin type is essential and will make sure that your makeup stays in place throughout the day. This also rehydrates, rejuvenates and moisturises your skin, giving you a beautiful glow. When in reality, you’ve probably only had a few hours sleep without the little one screaming or jumping on you.
For those who have to draw in their eyebrows, a colour that matches your hair is ideal. Follow the arch and shape of your eyebrow, without going too OTT – you might not want to look like Cara Delevingne. Finding a foundation that matches your skin colour and type is essential, as no-one wants to look like an Oompa Loompa after all. After applying it (lightly), put concealer on any bits you want to be covered — oh how it would be nice to have flawless skin! You can then blush and contour, as much as you want, without going overboard of course. Lightly applying mascara and a neutral eyeshadow is the next step, alongside a muted lipstick colour.
Of course, these are all just suggestions – so feel free to do whatever you are used to and feel comfortable with! Researching makeup tips and tricks online is a fun way of finding the balance and deciding what is good for you. The ‘barely there’ look is a great way of feeling like yourself whilst not looking like a Kardashian. Not taking long to apply, it will fit into your hectic schedule, whilst not taking away from family time.
