With spring finally in the air and the nights far less chilly than they have been, it’s finally time to ditch the sweaty 10.5-tog winter duvet and move to something lighter! With that in mind, when The Fine Bedding Company asked whether I’d like to review some items from their Eco bedding range, I was more than happy to oblige.
The Fine Bedding Company sent me a 4.5-tog kingsize Eco Duvet and two quilted Eco Pillows to put to the test.
The Fine Bedding Company Eco Duvet
The sustainable Eco Duvet is made from 100% recycled fabric which comes from polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles. It is lightweight and breathable, and the duvet’s filling is soft and slippery inside and not at all course or lumpy. It definitely doesn’t feel like it’s made from recycled plastic!
It’s also available in a thicker, 10.5 tog duvet for colder months but the 4.5 tog with a bedspread would probably be my preference as I’m a fan of removable layers for when I get hot at night. Might be my age!
The Fine Bedding Company Eco Pillow
The Quilted Eco Pillows are made from 100% recycled plastic; in fact 27 bottles go into making each pillow’s Smartfil Eco fibres.
So it’s good for the environment, but how is the Eco Pillow to sleep on?
Actually, it’s surprisingly good!
I’m quite picky about pillows, and sleeping on the wrong kind of pillow can make me feel as if I’ve fallen down the stairs the next day. This means I tend to stick with the same pillow for ages, until it becomes unbearably flat or lumpy – even though the advice is to replace your pillow every one to two years. The Eco Pillow was plump enough to be supportive and and soft enough to be comfortable, and I have slept very well on it for the past few weeks.
Care
Both the Eco Duvet and Eco Pillows are designed to be washed at an eco-friendly 30 degrees and tumble dried on a low heat setting until dry. I have not yet put my duvet or pillows through the wash, but will update this when I do (based on past experience, it’s only so long before a cup of tea accident will occur).
Packaging
There is nothing worse than purchasing a sustainable product that then arrives in single use plastic packaging. The packaging for the Eco Pillows and Duvet is 100% recycled, and can be recycled after use.
How much and where to buy
The Fine Bedding Company’s Eco Duvet is available in single, double, king and superking sizes, and in 4.5 tog and 10.5 tog thicknesses. It costs between £40 and £80 depending on the size and tog rating; our 4.5 tog kingsize Eco Duvet would have cost £55. The pillows cost £25 each.
