Lumie Bodyclock Go 75

Wake up refreshed with the Lumie Bodyclock Go 75: review

The Lumie Bodyclock Go 75 is an alarm clock, but one quite different to your usual mobile phone alarm!

The Lumie Bodyclock Go 75 wakes you up with a natural sunrise which gets brighter over 30 minutes. Obviously it has an audible alarm too,  in case you are a very deep sleeper (or just a tired parent who could sleep through the apolocalypse).

Now I’ll admit that I don’t really have a lot of need for an alarm clock, having two natural alarm clocks in the form of my children.

However, the natural sunrise is supposed to wake you naturally making you feel more refreshed than a sudden alarm. This in turn has been shown to boost productivity levels; something which I’d very much like to be true.

As we currently have no clock in our bedroom, we were happy to review one.

With no clock to glance at in the night, I’ve found myself looking at my phone to find out the time and before I know it it’s 4.32am and I’m scrolling through notifications.

Enough!

The Lumie Bodyclock Go 75 is a sleek looking black and white clock with an orange LED digital display.

The casing is plastic but it doesn’t look cheap. It is simple to set up; it comes with a bulb which you insert by taking off the lamp cover, screwing it in and then replacing the cover until the clips pop into place. It uses mains electricity so you need to be fairly close to a power point.

Once on, you need to set the time and the alarm time using the three buttons on the front. To do this, you’ll need to follow the instructions in the booklet. It’s easy (there are only 9 pages of actual instructions!), but the set up is not particularly intuitive so make sure you hang on to it for future reference!

The clock didn’t make any kind of buzzing noise, which was the reason I ditched the last one. I hate appliances that make buzzing sounds so it was a huge relief that this was absolutely silent.

So how does the Lumie Bodyclock Go 75 work?

The buttons on the Lumie Bodyclock Go 75

There are three buttons on the front beneath the time display. When you go to bed, you press the centre button until the sun comes up as shown in the image above. It will briefly show you the time the alarm is set for. As you can see I haven’t got the sound set on this one – if I did, the icon on the left would be lit.

It’s possible to set the time to fade or disappear completely when you set the alarm so that it doesn’t keep you awake. It’s also possible to fade the clock time without setting the alarm by pressing the two outer buttons together until it bleeps.

When the sun comes up, you can ‘snooze’ by pressing the – button, which gives you an extra 9 minutes.

Features of the Lumie Bodyclock Go 75

You can select the length of your ‘wake up’. We chose 30 minutes which means the sun gets brighter for 30 minutes, then remains at its brightest setting for 30 further minutes, and then turns off completely.

There are five wake up sounds to choose from. One is a very obnoxious beep; my favoured wake up sound was birdsong.

It can also be used as a bedside lamp. By pressing the + button you can turn up the brightness until it’s at the desired level. It will then stay on for 90 minutes or until you turn it off.

My impressions of the Lumie Bodyclock Go 75

Being someone who usually hates using instructions, I was flummoxed until I gave in and read them; it’s definitely not easy to figure out otherwise. This is due to the three-button panel; more buttons might be easier to figure out but would obviously look messier. It’s not a big deal, but definitely do not throw the instructions to one side.

Looks wise, I liked it and it fit in very well in our bedroom. When the sun is up, it’s really pretty, giving a lovely sunrise pattern on the wall.

Wake with a natural sunrise from the Lumie Bodyclock Go 75 - light up alarm clock with sounds to help you relax into your day, feel more energised and productive with natural daylight! From Lumie, the makers of SAD lamps.

As an alarm clock, I would definitely need the audible alarm as quite honestly I would sleep through the light alone given half a chance.

However the alarm sounds are very sudden and loud, even the bird sounds; it could perhaps do with being adjustable or a little bit quieter so it doesn’t wake up everyone in the street! Putting a bit of tape over the speaker helped somewhat although it would be perfect if the sounds faded in slowly as the light does.

The Lumie light is nice to wake up to.

It definitely helps me sleep longer – it’s a bit like an adult gro clock; if the sun isn’t up, back to sleep you go without any faffing to look at a phone!

Although I really couldn’t say it has definitely improved my mood (with the mornings so light I guess it’s not the ideal time to be testing it out) I can’t wait to use it in the winter. I really hope that it will make a difference, particularly when we have to get up very early as I am the world’s worst at getting up when it’s dark.

Like many, I’ve always hated the dark winter mornings and the affect they have on my mood and energy levels, and the Lumie clocks have been shown to be effective against Seasonal Affective Disorder.

What I can say is that it is pleasant as a reading light at night, I like the fact it turns itself off – and it’s nice to wake up to (when I get the chance). I do think that the light definitely makes you feel awake more quickly when you do open your eyes than being prodded in the face with a dinosaur.

I would actually choose the Bodyclock Go 75, because it’s the best-looking one imo and I wouldn’t be interested in the radio and music-streaming features on the other models.

  2. Lesley Renshaw

The Lumie Bodyclock Go 75 has everything I would need. I have troubles getting to sleep and waking up in the morning because of lack of sleep so this would be a great introduction to light therapy. Would love to see if it helps x

  3. I’d choose the Iris 500 because I could use the aromatherapy option to help me to fall asleep

  7. I’ve heard such positive things about the Lumie Bodyclocks, I’ve been secretly hankering after one for years. Didn’t realise they had such a range of models, though! Been having a proper look on their website and I love the sound of the Iris 500 coz aromatherapy at my bedside would feel really decadent and luxurious. Way beyond my budget for a clock atm though….Sigh…

  8. Bodyclock Luxe 750D is the most amazing cos of the features so that for sure or possibly the Zest for winter … hard choice

  9. Having looked at all of them, I would choose the Bodyclock Iris 500 because of its aromatherapy option.

  11. Honestly, while the model here is great and I’d love to win it, if I had the spare cash to buy a Lumie, I’d go all in and go top of the range with a Bodyclock Luxe 750D.
