At the end of this month I’ll be moving house. Fortunately there are no major renovations that need doing now; we want to decorate and replace the floor in the ‘adult’ front room and give the other living spaces a lick of paint, and we have long term plans, but there’s nothing structural (that we know of!).
As far as we’re aware, all the bedrooms are in good decorative order, however when it comes to children – and particularly in our situation when merging two families for the first time – it’s really important that they feel at home, and part of that is about the little touches that make a house a home, and a bedroom their own.
We chose some lights for their bedrooms to add a bit of sparkle into their rooms!
For my son’s blue room, I went with this white star shaped hanging decoration with 40 blue LED fairy lights wrapped around it. There are similar stars with white LEDs if you prefer, as well as large star-shaped lights with longer cables and mains plugs for outside use.
At 33cm tall, it can dangle in the window or sit on a shelf. It has a one metre cord with a battery pack at the end. It requires 3 AA batteries to power it and the pack has an on, off and a timer switch so you can turn it on in the evening, use it as a nightlight and then it will turn itself off after several hours.

A similar hanging decoration, this pretty heart wreath is 18cm tall. It has ten warm white LED fairy lights and plastic glass and pearl style beads wrapped around the frame, and a ribbon from which to hang it. It requires 2 AA batteries and has a 1.5m cord and a timer switch. It costs £10.99 and you can buy it here.
The youngest has a Lion themed room, so this wooden LED wall light will be perfect! It’s 35cm tall and features a cute, friendly lion which can be hung on the wall. Requiring AA batteries with an on/off switch on the back, there are no dangerous cords so it is ideal for younger children. The lion has 36 LED lights (in warm white) which illuminate his mane. There’s a timer switch so it can be used as a nightlight.

Lastly, my oldest has decided that she loves llamas and chose this string of 20 mains powered llama fairy lights which will be hung around her room. With 3.8m of lights and 5m of lead to plug into the wall, they also come with hour timer so they can be turned on in the evening to provide a bit of subtle night light and if they happen to fall asleep, the lights will automatically turn off after six hours.
