I have to be honest, currently I have no plans to go out on Valentine’s day itself. I am however off out this weekend, and welcomed the idea of a nice new dress or outfit for the occasion.
If you’re looking for mid-sized clothing then Yours Clothing, who I’ve worked with on several posts now (and whose clothes now make up a significant part of my wardrobe!), are a great place to look. Although they’re primarily a plus-size clothing retailer, their clothes are really inclusive and start at a size 14. As a size 12-14 in most places, I find that Yours Clothing tend to fit well, sometimes coming up large but never small, and most come with tie waists or can have belts added to bring them in.
They also sell boots (you can see mine here) for those with wide feet and, like me, large calves which don’t fit into standard boots.
If you’re looking plus size clothing, then they go up to a size 40 in many styles and up to a 36 in others.

YOURS LONDON Curve Black Dobby Puff Sleeve Dress
My first choice was this black midi dress which is made from a polka dot sheer fabric with a puffed sleeve detail.
There is a second, stretchy layer underneath the sheer dotty fabric, which forms a sleeveless shift dress so your arms and your legs under the ruffle at the bottom can be seen slightly through the fabric. It’s really pretty detail and a very flattering dress; it comes in at the elasticated waist and has a tie belt for you to adjust it perfectly.
This polkadot midi dress is also available in deep red wine colour and a lovely emerald green as well as the black, but unfortunately neither colour were available in my size at the time of ordering (although they are now!). I’ll probably get more use out of the black as it can be worn for any evening occasion although I do still covet the red particularly!
The only downside I can see to the Dobby dress – which can be washed in the washing machine – is that the sheer fabric is very thin on the arms, and if you catch it, it could get ripped. Probably best worn for a meal out and avoid wearing if you’re going trekking through brambles. Also, it could have benefited from being hung and/or ironed before I wore it for these pictures, but I don’t own an iron I’m afraid. Sorry.

YOURS LONDON Curve Black Polkadot Ruffle Wrap Dress
I wasn’t expecting much from this polkadot ruffle midi dress, to be honest, but the dress I wanted to get was out of stock and this was my reluctant second choice. However in my humble opinion, it was definitely a good one.
It has just the right amount of stretch to it, I like the wrap-style neckline which isn’t too low cut (no one wants to be continually hoiking their dress up all evening and I am surprised I’ve not had to pin or sew it) and I love the slightly baggy sleeves – perfect for a chilly Valentine’s evening date.
It suspect I will get a different belt with it, but I’m really pleased at the way it fits. If I had to be nitpicky, the fabric does feel kind of cheap but when it’s on it skims everything in a really flattering way and you can’t tell from looking at it particularly. No one should be looking that hard.

LUXE Curve Black Floral Sequin Hand Embellished Cami Top
Lastly, I opted for a fancy cami top. So far as I’ve mainly got dresses from Yours Clothing, so wanted to give something different a try.
Things I like about this top: The design is lovely and it sits really well on the shoulders.
Things I wasn’t quite so keen on: There’s a lot of fabric and it was a lot longer than I had anticipated! On the website, it just about skims the (probably very tall) model’s bum. On me (at an average 5ft 6) it cut to mid-thigh. It felt more like a dress than a top but I tried it without the jeans on and felt a bit naked, so I definitely wouldn’t wear it out like that.
Things I noted that were neither positive nor negative: It was quite heavy due to the fancy embellishments. It hasn’t got a lot of shape to it, which is preferable for some figures but probably not so much for mine, and you can’t really wear with a belt.
I will definitely wear it later on in the year, perhaps to less formal occasions that don’t require a dress although I concede that thanks to the sequins it is definitely a bit fancy for everyday wear! Maybe down the pub, for instance. I would suggest leggings or leather look leggings as opposed to jeans with it though.
