This summer I have a wardrobe just bursting with clothes that I can’t wear – which is a little bit rubbish. This is because since summer of last year, I’ve put on about two stone in weight – you can find out more about that here, if you’re particularly nosey.
My aim for this year is to get fitter and to get back into those clothes at some point, but these things don’t happen overnight, and if there’s anything worse than being a little bit chunkier than you want to be in summer (and the chub rub and boob sweat that goes with it…), it’s having uncomfortably small clothes that remind you of it all the damn time.
So, when I had the opportunity to pick out some new pieces for my wardrobe from Yours Clothing, I was only too happy to browse through the summer dresses.
Yours Clothing: Size 14 summer dresses
Yours Clothing is a plus size clothing retailer, and while I wouldn’t categorise myself as plus size, they stock many of their clothes from a size 14 and up to a size 40.
All of the items I chose in a size 14.
Curve Yellow Floral Print High Low Midi Dress
My favourite and the most ‘me’ summer dress I picked was this yellow floral midi dress with a gathered waist and button-down top. It’s so ‘me’, in fact, that neither of my children believed me that it was new, insisting that I already owned it. I didn’t.
The fit of this dress is on the larger side, so you could probably size down if you are between sizes, but with a belt to bring the waist in it’s really light and summery. The floaty sleeves and ruffled hem give it a bit of a 70s feel. It would be suitable for a holiday, lunch out or even workwear paired with a smart jacket.
Made from 100% viscose, this dress costs £36.99. It comes in four colours/designs and is available up to a size 38/40.
The only downside is that it clearly is the type of dress that could do with an iron before wearing – but I don’t actually own an iron, or believe in ironing, so I’ll have to make do.
YOURS LONDON Curve White Tropical Cami Maxi Dress
Next up, this tropical maxi dress with a cami top is made from stretch jersey fabric, it is very forgiving, skimming over lumps and bumps. I felt it looked much better with a belt to give it a waist but that’s probably just how it fits me.
The pattern is really big, bright and summery and I think good for a special occasion or holiday. It’s washed up well, and dries very quickly on the washing line too.
There are three other floral designs available. It’s available in sizes 14-32, and cost £39.99 but is down to just £7.99 in the sale currently.
YOURS LONDON Curve Green Tropical Print Knot Front Maxi Dress
My third favourite of my original summer dress ‘haul’, this bright and bold v-necked maxi dress with a knotted front is the most expensive choice at £45.99.
I umm-ed and ah-ed about which of the five different fabric designs to go for, and decided on the blue tropical palm print, which is very bright and perhaps a little outside of my comfort zone.
Its made of stretchy material and has a tie to bring the waist in. I would say it’s a slightly darker blue than on the website, which shows it as a bright teal colour (and is sold as ‘green’).
The knotted-front maxi dress is available in up to a size 32.
YOURS LONDON Curve Green Floral Cold Shoulder Dress
The only item I decided not to keep was this cold shoulder dress with a tie-waist.
It didn’t really have enough space around the bust for me so the pattern was really stretched, and was very baggy around the waist area. I’m sure on another person it would look lovely, but I just didn’t like it on me.
There are two designs, available up to a size 30-32, and it cost £36.99 but is currently £9.99 in the sale.
YOURS LONDON Curve Green Ombre Shirred Waist Maxi Dress
In place of the cold shoulder top, which I sent back, I got an ombre shirred waist maxi dress with a wrap-style neckline.
I know I will probably spill something down it, but the other patterned maxis were out of stock in my size and I really wanted one to wear out for an upcoming birthday. White wine only, then.
I did have to buy nude underwear to go with it (this bra cost me less than £9 and these pants were also a good buy), as it’s slightly see through!

Is Yours Clothing any good for size 14 clothes?
As a plus size retailer it might not be your first choice to visit if you happen to be at the smaller end of their range, but as a lot of their clothing starts at a 14 (some at a size 16) it is worth checking out Yours Clothing.
