I saw a meme floating about on social media last week which really shocked me; this is – all being well – the first ‘normal’ school year that my year two child has experienced, ever. His reception and year one years were both cut short with lots of homeschooling thrown into the mix.
I say ‘normal’, but it’s not really is it? There’s so much to catch up on, and with COVID still very much around, and pupils and teachers off sick with new variants popping up, parents are all very aware that at any point in time we could be called upon to have the children doing at-home learning again.
Only, this time there’s no furlough, employers are less sympathetic and the show must go on. It’s a nightmare – and a reality – for lots of parents of school-aged children.

Group classes
If one on one seems a bit daunting, there are now brand new group classes which cost less per session, and allow your kid to be part of a small class setting of around 10 children.
Note that you can’t use the free credit mentioned above on classes, but they are definitely worth checking out as they cover loads of topics at all levels from primary, GCSE, A-Level and beyond. My son is quite keen on Roblox Maths Camp which is weekly, and costs £10 a session, and my daughter would like to start a creative writing course aimed at primary school children.
