Tonsillitis sucks and makes your brain too mushy to come up with a witty title

If you follow my Instagram you may know that I have tonsillitis.

Boo. I also have all sorts of grim infections in my jaw, face, eye, ears, throat…

It’s pretty unpleasant to be honest.

It hit yesterday, but rather than going to the doctor like a sensible adult who makes sensible adult decisions, I powered on through and went into London on the promise of semi-naked men (and children’s entertainment, obviously, anything for those kids).

I then got home, realised my mistake and self-medicated with Sav Blanc. Weirdly, it didn’t do anything to improve the symptoms, so this morning was spent with a trip the doctor where he confirmed acute tonsillitis (‘well done, you’ve diagnosed yourself’) and gave me a course of antibiotics, and then a visit to the dentist where I was referred for a wisdom tooth extraction to get rid of the nasty little buggers that I suspect caused all this pain.

Not bad for a day’s work.

Not only does this mean I am in a world of pain (and, may I say, swollen and sexy AF right now), but as it co-incides with the kids being on half term, I am unfortunately forced to let them pretty much parent each other while I lay on the sofa unable to plead with them or shout at them.

It’s gone OK actually.

A get well card from my darling children

Other than being apparently unable to play anywhere in the house other than whichever room I have snuck away to for a bit of peace and quiet, and obviously turning every single room in turn into an unutterable shithole, they haven’t done too badly.

As it happens, six year olds can be alarmingly self sufficient as and when the need arises.

My six year old has:

  • Got herself and her brother dressed. Pretty much. He didn’t manage to find any trousers but seems happy enough and it hurts to talk so I shan’t be bringing it up.
  • Made lunch for herself and her brother (peanut butter sandwiches with crisps. Not the healthiest but better than a McDonald’s which would have been my attempt). Fed most of it to the dog anyway.
  • Let the dog out, multiple times. Yes it would be better if she managed to shut the door afterwards but I’m trying very hard to look for the positive here.
  • Disciplined the dog with colourful language as I was clearly unable to do so.
  • Attempted to wipe her little brother’s butt. Nb this did not go well, and is definitely among the ‘get up and out of your seat even if you’re on your deathbed rather than delegate to a sibling’ parenting chores.

Anyway, hopefully nanny and grandad will come and take them tomorrow, or I’ll make a miraculous overnight recovery, or maybe both.

phenoxymethylpenicillin

Silver lining I guess…
