The PAJ Easy Finder is a GPS tracker designed for vehicles, people and valuables.
You only have to have your luggage go missing once to realise a. How annoying it is and b. How little compensation airlines will actually pay out when they lose your bags. If it happens to you, not only do you have to recall exactly what you’ve packed and provide an itemised list, along with receipts, but if you happen to take anything electrical with you it won’t be covered. A bag containing several thousand pounds worth of clothing and personal items might see you awarded a few hundred – and if your travel insurance doesn’t explicitly state it, you probably can’t claim.
A GPS tracker won’t stop your bag being lost, but it will help you to locate it, or any other item you want to track the location of.
As a frequent flier who recently had his luggage go missing on a work trip, I thought my partner would be the perfect person to test this out, so I sent it with him on his most recent work trip to track where he ended up.
Setting up the PAJ Easy Finder 4G GPS Tracker
Inside the Easy Finder 4G box you get: the device with a SIM card already installed, a case to protect it with a belt loop and a lanyard, a USB a charging cable, a European USB plug (the charging cable can however plug into any USB charger) and the instructions.
The PAJ Easy Finder GPS tracker unit measures 39mm wide by 78mm tall and 29mm deep. It weighs 123g and is waterproof to IP65 which should keep it safe in the rain.
Charge the device up overnight and it will last for at least a few days, more if it isn’t in constant use.
The PAJ Finder Portal
PAJ GPS is one of the leading European brand in GPS tracker devices. Their finder portal – accessible via the web or on a handy mobile app – makes it easy to track your GPS Easy Finder from wherever you are.
Setting up an account can be done via the Finder Portal website or via the PAJ Portal app, which means you can track your Finder from anywhere. Note that to use the tracker you need to pay a monthly subscription for the sim card to be active, and the cost of this varies depending on how long you sign up for costing £5.99 for a single month, £54.99 for a year or £89.99 for two years.
Once you have signed up, the app or website is very easy to use. It shows you where your GPS tracker currently is, as well as where it has been.
You can also analyse the travel time, stop points and speed variation during the route. It stores routes for a year so you can check back to see where it has been. You can set alarms to go off on the device remotely via the portal.
It will let you know when it’s been moved/shaken, when the battery is low, when it is travelling above a certain speed or out of a certain area and you can set up alerts to your device for all of these.
I’ve taken some screenshots from the web-based portal, although the app works really well.
The app was able to locate my partner in the UK, and then once he landed. The tracker relies on the 2G and 4G signal so if it doesn’t have any signal (for example, in mid air) it won’t work but as soon as it is able to it will pick up signal.
When it does have signal, the app can identify the location to within a building or two.
On the top there is a SOS button which you can press for 5 seconds to send an alarm to the app
Battery life
When it isn’t being tracked or moving, the Easy Finder GPS tracker goes into standby mode to conserve battery. If it isn’t in use and you want to turn it off altogether, hold down the button on the top for a few seconds until it vibrates. After it has sent its final location, it will turn off. If the battery runs out, it will also do this so you know where it was when it last had power. you last saw it.
It stayed charged for a two day work trip and has not indicated that it needs to be recharged yet.
