Having just one big room which not only acts as my office but my kids’ playroom and everything in between can be quite noisy. Active noise cancelling (ANC) headphones have been on my wishlist for ages, but seems my kids are destined to have all the good stuff – like these BuddyPhones Cosmos+ wireless active noise cancelling headphones which we’ve been sent to review.
BuddyPhones Cosmos+ review: Wireless headphones for kids

Available in a range of fun colours (Cool Blue, which we have, as well as Rose Pink, Sun Yellow, Grey Matter, Deep Blue and Snow White) each with bright cartoon-style characters on the ear pieces, the BuddyPhones Cosmos+ headphones connect via bluetooth to any device for a wire-free listening experience for kids aged three and over.
They do also come with a 3.5mm cable so you can have a wired connection to a normal headphone socket. Also in the box, you get a detachable boom mic which plugs into the charging socket, and a hard case in which to store your BuddyPhones.

Set up of the BuddyPhones Cosmos+

To set up the BuddyPhones Cosmos+ , they first need to be charged with a normal USB-C cable (cable included). Once they are charged, the central power button (between the volume buttons) can be pressed for one second, to make the headphones visible and ready to pair with a bluetooth device such as a laptop, tablet, television or phone. Your child can then start listening to media – watching films, gaming, attending online learning etc – or even having a two-way chat with their BuddyPhones microphone attached.
One charge of the battery should last for 24 hours of play time, and they don’t take a long time to charge.

What features do they have?
The headphones are padded for comfort, they’re adjustable (even to an adult sized head) and foldable so they can be stored and transported easily in their hard case.

You can turn the volume up and down and skip and rewind tracks using the buttons on the headphones. The maximum allowable volume can be set by the parents and there are three modes; toddler (up to 75dB), kid (up to 85dB) and travel (up to 94dB) so that little ears can stay safe according to WHO recommendations.

The come with a microphone for very clear two-way talk and you can use the included AUX cable to share wireless audio with another pair of standard headphones.
They have ‘study mode’ which claims to be ‘voice enhancing’, although I am not entirely sure what this means or how it works, so I can’t say whether this feature is particularly useful to us but if your child does a lot of home learning and find it hard to focus on what the teacher is saying. then it could come in handy.
The ‘active noise cancelling’ can be turned on with a button on the left hand side.

What is active noise cancelling?
Active noise cancelling can be turned on by pressing the button on the left headphone; a green light will indicate that it is working and you will be able to hear a low white noise. After a while this fades into the background and you can’t really hear it, and it blocks out a lot of the background noise allowing you to concentrate on whatever you’re doing. This would be particularly useful when travelling, for example, cutting out any loud aeroplane noises or when trying to concentrate on an online lesson.

What did we think of the BuddyPhones Cosmos+ active noise cancelling wireless headphones?
The BuddyPhones Cosmos+ headphones have a hefty price tag of £99.90 which might put them out of the reach of many parents. They are however excellent quality as well as being extremely comfortable and tough wearing – they are designed to stand up to being used by kids and have a two year warranty attached to them. The only exception to this is that the backs of the headphones can be scratched quite easily; or at least, ours have some scratches and I’m not entirely sure how it happened.

The headphones give really good quality, sharp sound, and my favourite feature is the active noise cancelling which is really impressive; I’ve actually been using them myself to work when the kids are watching TV and having looked at the prices of well-reviewed adult ANC headphones it is easy to understand where the price tag comes from. I think I will stick with these ones for the time being!
