May got off to a belting start; I started typing this from the midst of a heatwave!
I then completely forgot to finish it.
I’d offer apologies for the fact that this update is now over a week later than it should have been, but I’m exhausted and I don’t have many to offer so it would be a little insincere. What with the new house, a real job, kids and a dog, a newish relationship and friends and stuff (I know, I do have some, I swear), the blog has been falling a bit by the wayside. I’m pretty much out of my depth holding everything together so something had to give and I’m afraid that something was you, dear reader.
I’ve been in this house for a full month now, and despite being worried that I’d never finish the unpacking on my own it wasn’t actually too bad. The boxes were unpacked in a few days, and over the next few weeks the pictures went up and I even did a bit of decorating. Anyway, I get ahead of myself.
Here’s what happened in April!

I made lots of trips to Ikea
As luck would have it, I am less than ten minutes’ drive from an Ikea and as a consequence of this I am sick of the bloody sight of it now – which is inconvenient as my house is pretty much a direct replica of the showroom, complete with probably far too many pot plants.
As an aside, I’m pretty bored of meatballs now.
I built a bed
I realised I shared the before pictures but not the after pictures of my new Bed Kingdom bed. Well, here you go! You can see the whole thing in progress here, if you so wish.
I kind of build a cabinet
How utterly GORGEOUS is this sideboard I bought from Laura James? Sexy, no?
Shame the cupboard wouldn’t adjust properly so I can’t fucking use it. I promise I’m not a moron but there are HOURS of my life I’ll never get back there. It’s just kind of… taking up space, being pretty but ultimately useless.
Oh well.
I worked with Very and got some nice clothes
I don’t do a lot of review work on the blog any more, but I do like working with Very because I get to pick out clothes I’ll actually wear. You can see my picks in the post here.
I did a little bit of decorating
I’ve only properly painted one room, which is my annexe/guest room, because the sheer amount of filler on the walls was causing my eye to twitch every time I went in there. There are more rooms to do, but they’ll probably have to wait until I’m fully recovered from the tedium of doing this one.
God, I hate painting. What a thankless task that is – although my technique of doing ten minutes here and there over a week rather than tackling it all in one day paid off because I got it done and I didn’t die of boredom or repetitive strain injury.
I had a spare tin of Earthborn paint left over so I’ve basically and very lazily replicated my old sitting room but without the manky old sofas and minus the fireplace, and with more peacocks and lights from wtlighting.co.uk. Don’t look too closely because the quality of this peel and stick wallpaper was awful. Anyway it was from Amazon (you can find it here, should you wish to) and it was dead cheap but don’t be fooled. It’s like a thin foil and doesn’t really stick very well. Do not recommend. Shame, that.
I also used a much better quality peel and stick to cover the hideous beige doors in my wardrobe. I’d recommend this one – you can buy it for £24.99 for a 6m roll from Amazon.
You might think that’s quite enough birds for one house, but I disagree.

I don’t know if it’s because it’s mine or it’s just nicer – but I’m glad I’m here.
The wisteria bloomed
If you like purple (which I don’t, really, but I’ll make an exception for nature) then April is the month to be in. I loved my big garden in the old house, but this one is so much more manageable and I’m getting so much more use out of it.
We had some glorious wisteria bloom…
… And it was of course the month for bluebell walks too.
