This is a collaborative post: Christmas is a time to get together. Often it’s the only time you’ll get certain people all under one roof to socialise. Whether it’s the work’s Christmas party, a big family feast, or just catching up with those friends you don’t see to often, chances are you want to dress to impress.
The good thing about Christmas fashion is that it stays pretty constant. While trends may change, there are some staple festive looks that never go out of style. Sure, your hairstyle, or the cut of your jeans might differ with the times, but Christmas fashion is easy to get right.
Below are some of my favourite Christmas fashion looks, to help you see out the festive period in style!
1. Jeans and a ‘Nice Top’
The age-old answer to you friend’s cry of “what are you wearing?”, when you don’t actually know. Jeans and a ‘nice top’ will never go out of style, but the definition of ‘nice top’ my be a little different from year to year. Jewel tones are a safe bet, or a classic red, strappy number will always look festive. Finish this outfit with high heels to feel dressed to the nines.
2. The Little Black Dress
From when it first became popular in the 1930s, the little black dress has never gone out of style. Sure to give you a confidence boost and go with (or without) any accessories you may own, every woman needs an LDB in their wardrobe. Different styles of the little black dress, need to be paired with different footwear. If you’re rocking a fitted mini, thigh high boots will complete your look and keep you warm. A bodycon midi begs for high heeled court shoes, while a more vintage cut with a fuller skirt would look killer with a peep toe.
3. Christmas Jumper Day
There’s always an occasion that requires you to wear a Christmas jumper, whether it’s a work initiative or all friends in agreement down the pub. Jumpers are casual by nature, but there are things you can do to glam it up. One way to create a glam look for the office is to wear a high-waisted pencil skirt and pop on a belt. Then put the jumper on over the top, and fold the jumper upwards under the belt. The belt helps create a cropped look with a ruched bottom, while the high waisted pencil skirt gives a slinky silhouette.
If you’re wearing Christmas jumper to an evening in the pub, try glamming it it up with some PU leggings and heels.
4. Add a Bit of Sparkle
Sometimes at Christmas, all you want to do is shine like a disco ball. The fashion industry understands this desire, which is why all the shops are filled with sequins and glitter, the minute November hits. For a classy way to add a bit of sparkle, consider pairing a jumpsuit with a sequin blazer. Alternatively, if you want to go all out on the sparkle front, look for an off-the-shoulder sequined dress. If blocks of sparkle aren’t your thing, try to find a dress with a glittery overlay design for a more subtle look.
5. Christmas Themed Clothing
When you’re too excited to contain yourself and you want your outfit to scream “Christmas”, it’s time to pull out the big guns with some themed apparel. Dressing up in a Santa suit (or even a Mrs Claus outfit) might seem too on the nose, so go for a Christmas print instead. There are tonnes of festive fabric designs out there, the hard bit is picking one. Usually you can choose from dresses, blouses, skirts and even full suits if you look hard enough. If you opt for a skirt or dress, do yourself a favour and buy some candy cane style tights to finish the look. You’ll be more festive than the big man himself!
