My six year old just loves makeup and everything sparkly, so we were happy to review the new Shimmer N Sparkle Instaglam dolls from Character Toys; collectible 4 inch fashion dolls which each come with hidden makeup inside.
There are four different dolls to collect; Nina, Luna, Hayley, and Evie. We received Evie – a green and pink haired doll with silver hair accessories – and Luna – a blonde haired doll with red accessories – to review.
What do you get inside the packet?
Inside each transparent package you your doll and a removable stand. You can rip the packet open from the base, but I would recommend using scissors to be safe.
They each come with a stand with their name on it, which holds the doll upright in the packaging with removable keylocks. You can choose to keep them attached to the stands or remove them.
If you open up the doll’s head like a compact, inside you will find a mirror and a mini makeup palette including two eyeshadows and two lipglosses, and a mini lipstick. The hair accessories pop out to reveal a sponge applicator and a brush.
Each Shimmer N Sparkle Instaglam doll has a different colour palette so you can collect them all!
Luna comes with a blue and peach eyeshadow and pink lipglosses, whereas Evie has purple and silver eyehadows and brighter pink lipglosses. The pigment isn’t too heavy but they do show up when used!
Instaglam dolls
The dolls come with sparkly lips/eyeshadow which change colour with water (nb it will not change back again). I would recommend using a tissue for this as the water makes the dye come off, which can be a little messy.
The heads are poseable and the bodies pop out from the heads so you can mix and match the outfits and the hair accessories/brushes if you want to. You can also take out the makeup palettes and swap them around so you can keep your favourite colour palette inside your favourite doll compact.
Once the makeup is used up, your child could use their compact to store other bits and bobs inside!
What did we think of Shimmer N Sparkle Instaglam dolls?
My six year old says:
I like them. The one with the blonde hair looks a bit like me if my hair was pink. I like the purple makeup the best. The makeup makes me look messy but I can wash it off.
From my point of view, I have never been a huge fan of makeup on children, but she certainly does enjoy playing with it and these little Instaglam doll compacts are cute and age-appropriate. It stops her from pinching my makeup, which is a good thing.
The makeup isn’t too thick and it comes off easily with water.
She hasn’t had any kind of reaction to it, which is usually my first concern with ‘play’ makeup. It has obviously come on a bit since I was young and it would leave you red and blotchy. It won’t stain and is non-toxic.
I think that the Instaglam dolls are a new twist on the classic compact and at £9.99 would make a fun present for a kid who loves to do their makeup.
