Getting decent food into the big one seems to be a constant struggle.
Out and about, I don’t even try to force vegetables into her any more (unless they’re bean shaped and covered in tomato sauce) for fear of the public tantrum.
At home though, this sucker for punishment just keeps trying. The refusal to eat whatever is put in front of her is a fairly new but very annoying phase and, as much as I’m sure it is pretty normal for toddlers, it’s driving me demented.
I think it would piss me off less if she was at least consistent. I’ve just spent half an hour knocking up a very decent salmon and courgette risotto. Fancy right? Delicious, I’d say. Last week she thought so, too. She ate the lot. Today it’s as if I am trying to feed her sewage.
We’ve had twenty minutes of her whinging about wanting ice cream instead (I’d probably have cracked and given her some if it didn’t involve a trip to the shop) and now I’m hiding out in the kitchen making toast. Or trying to; the bread is starting to go mouldy. This really isn’t the day for a tea time tantrum.
The little one has definite ideas of what he does and doesn’t like, but fortunately not the words yet to express how disgusting he finds my cooking. Small mercies.

Were you in my house at tea last night. We went through the identical 5 step process with chicken tacos, without the spice for the girls, and they were rejected by Youngest, who decided that she wanted sausages and only sausages. I was looking for a packet of crisps for her and when I came back she had wolfed down the lot and mine because she decided that she atually liked it – "grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr". #KCACOLS
Ahh sounds very similar to tea time at our house Fran. It's so frustrating when you take time to make the food and then it gets rejected…though we also have the same with the 12 year old at times too ha. Thanks so much for linking up at #KCACOLS. Hope you come back again next Sunday.
Oh the stress of meal times, mine didn't grow out of this until reception year at school, I made them have school dinners, they ended up trying new things which made meal times at home easier #KCACOLS
At least they don't say 'Yuk! Stinky socks!' with everything you give them, like our one does!! Lovely graphic by the way. So I formative, yet so graphical.#KCACOLS

It was the love it one minute, hate it the next thing that used to get me…But more annoyingly they say nothing as they watch you cooking what they liked last week and wait until its put in front of them to say they no longer like it! Sheeshk! I feel your pain. #KCACOLS
Love this post! I too never try to get veggies into my little ones when we are out and about. SOMETIMES but very rarely, they will eat carrot sticks though! My little ones get so upset at dinnertime, because they want to eat, but they don't want me to make it. They just want it to…appear I guess! Haha
Brilliant post. I swear every child is born with an aversion to anything green or remotely healthy. #chucklemums
And I am complaining about weaning! I am not looking forward to this phase. Thank go for that, we have wine to survive! Hurrah! #Chucklemums
Haha excellent and oh so very true!! #chucklemums
Last night youngest refused to eat her tea and ate stale bread. Apparently I am living with a duck. #Chucklemums
This is so funny and so relatable!!Mind you my teens are still at it! We have to call Goulash beef stew (which isn't really a lie) to get the 14 yr old to eat it… #chucklemums
Mine has started having food tantrums at 9 months old. But they are caused by me not putting big enough spoonfuls into her mouth fast enough. If I can't keep up with her demands she breaks down into hysterical sobs and won't eat anything. I am dreading her toddler tantrums… Also relieved to know that I am not the only one who spends time considering the state of mouldy bread as a possible meal for my child. #Chucklemums
Oh God…I feel your pain. I used to be the fussiest eater (and still would much rather ice cream than anything else)and my littlest niece won't eat anything but rice herself. Always a struggle! P.S. love your infographic! #chucklemums
Right. I have decided we are the same person… this could have been NG and NC last night – the boy eats EVERYTHING (although he does 'shout happily' all the way through it) and the girl toddler is a bloody law unto herself. 'I don't like red and I don't like green even though my favrit colours but not on food'. AAAARGH. Bloody hell. Wine was definitely opened at six too. #chucklemums
Why the human race ever made it when kids are such irrational divs I don't know. #chucklemums
The thing that winds me up the most is the way they eat something one week and it's poison the next! I can't cope with inconsistency! Also funny: the impossibility of cooking and paying attention to them at the same time. #chucklemums
Ha! I've witnessed feeding time at the zoo that is my sisters house and it is precisely like that usually! one child scoffs the lot and one fickle little one who doesn't actually know what they want! (and wine. she usually has wine) #chucklemums
I'm glad the Popple doesn't have the words yet to express how she feels about my cooking too. Then again, words might be preferable to just throwing it on the floor and screaming. #chucklemums
Mine all went to bed at 6pm. People were always saying to me: how do you do it? I would always reply: they can't tell the time. It was my sanity with 4 so young, but I would really, REALLY recommend it. It's win win and then add an 'e' and relax for that extra hour 🙂 Alison x #chucklemums
I'm guessing I have this all to come. Unless of course she turns after her dad which means she will eat everything in site plus more!
#KCACOLS XX
hehe and that is what paw patrol is for at the mo! 20 mins of uninterrupted cooking time haha! #chucklemums
Apparently, at pre-school Mouse will eat anything and everything. Hollow legs they call her. At home, she will ask for a dry cracker for her lunch with not a whiff of topping in sight. Maybe she's secretly doing the 5:2 diet? Swines, the lot of them. #Chucklemums
Love your infographic, it looks like it'll be so serious and informative, haha! x #KCACOLS
This is my 2 year old all over!! Loves something then it's "yuck" or "poo poo" the very next day. Why?? Don't know why us mums bother?! ? #chuclemums
I love this infographic! I feel like this almost every time I try to feed my toddler. I usually end up wanting to cry. Thanks for sharing! #KCACOLS
I've had many a teatime like this. I'll try and remember to post "The Big Food Fight" for you Next Week. It is hard work and their logic makes no sense x #chucklemums
*sigh* I don't even know where to begin. My 4 yo is so fussy, he starts whining that he doesn't like his tea before he's even seen what he's having. Luckily I think he might just be starting to get better…he ate half a cheery tomato the other day…
Haha that infographic is genius…im currently hiding from my 5 year old who I have been repeatedly putting into bed for the last 65 minutes, he is now screaming like a banshee and covered in snot. I'm comfort eating ice cream. We have the same food love/hates one night he will love carrots and hummus the next hell will rain down If he sees them…love this xx chucklemums
My son is an angel who eats anything at all, but this sounds like the struggle I used to have when my daughter was small! Very relatable!

We’ve been going with “It’s that or nothing!” and “If he goes without dinner because he’s stubborn, he’ll soon learn,” for TWO YEARS NOW! I made a delicious roast last night… he took one look and then went off up to bed. *sigh*
