Despite it definitely not being a holiday, which I have explained more times than I can count, Halloween is my children’s favourite holiday. I don’t know if it’s the dressing up, the excessive sugar, the decorations, or the ‘being able to scare people without getting told off‘ (direct quote from my son, there) but they go nuts for it and as soon as October comes around they’re begging to decorate the house with spiders webs.
This year, our favourites at Yoto have got into the Halloween spirit with a range of spooktacular audio books suitable for all ages.

We have been sent a bundle of exciting new stories and adventures, inside a special zip-up hard case which carries and stores up to 64 Yoto cards. You can buy the case here for £24.99.

Ours is a special Halloween Yoto card holder complete with spooky additions!

Spooky scary stories for Yotoween
The Worst Witch series by Jill Murphy was one of my favourite set of books as a child, and I was so excited to start sharing the adventures of Mildred Hubble, Maud and Enid (not forgetting Tabby the cat) with my daughter when she was old enough to sit still and listen through chapter books.

Now we have the whole series on Yoto card audiobook, so she can listen to the stories before bedtime and even read along. There are eight cards in the series, and you can buy them separately or get the whole lot – over twelve hours of audio – for £39.99 in the Yoto Store.

Ladybird Spooky Stories is a collection of 10 original stories aimed at three-to seven-year-olds, with a run time of one hour. My son doesn’t like to be scared but he very much enjoyed these stories; perfect for Halloween!

For slightly older children, enid Blyton books are always a hit, and Stories of Magic and Mischief and Tales of Tricks and Treats are both collections of stories which are perfect for spooky season.

Tricks and Treats is over four hours long and contains 30 short stories featuring wizards, witches, fairies and giants for kids aged five and over.

Magic and Mischief is over five hours of audio and features a selection of 30 short stories. Both priced at £9.99, they’re also available to members of the New Yoto Club

In a dark, dark town there was a dark, dark street
and in the dark, dark street there was a dark, dark house,
and in the dark, dark house there were some dark, dark stairs
and down the dark, dark stairs there was a dark, dark cellar
and in the dark dark cellar….
Three skeletons lived!

If this sounds familiar, then you probably read Alan Ahlberg’s Funnybones as a child – and if you want to relive your childhood through your own kids, it’s one of the Halloween picks. At 36 minutes long, the card has eight stories, and costs £7.99.

Paw Patrol Pups Halloween is the latest Paw Patrol Yoto card for children aged 3 and over. Featuring five spooky adventures, this card will keep little ones spellbound for over an hour, and it costs £7.99 in the Yoto Card Store here.

Last but not least, there is a new version of the Roald Dahl classic The Witches read by comedian Lolly Adefope. The story follows a little boy who goes to live with his grandmother in Norway, who is a witch hunter. They return to England and come face to face with the claw-handed, bald-headed, square-footed Grand High Witch who wants to turn all of the children in England into mice. At least, that’s what I remember from reading it some 30 years ago – maybe I need to give the audiobook a listen!
The New Yoto Club

The Yoto Club has changed!
Yoto Club is now easier to use and you get more cards to pick from every month.
Each month on your billing date, Yoto will add two Club Credits to your account. Each Club Credit equals one Yoto Card, and instead of choosing from 10 pre-selected Yoto Cards, you’ll take your pick from a much wider Yoto Club collection within the Card Store. There are already over 100 titles to pick from!

You can choose your Yoto Club Cards whenever you want them
You can also keep the Club Credits for up to 12 months.
As well as this, you will get 10% off all cards and free shipping on everything, all the time.
It still costs £9.99 a month and with most cards costing around that much, it’s a much cheaper way to build you Yoto Card collection. See the website here for more details of how to join.

Love that Yoto card holder. We really need one of those, our cards are currently in an empty takeaway tub!!
