Now that lots of people are setting up home working spaces, who can resist making their office space a little fancy? An art print here, an executive toy there. The latest must-have item to keep on your desk and impress your workmates during Zoom meetings is definitely the levitating plant pot.
Although it looks like witchcraft, the clever design uses magnets to keep the plant pot floating 1-2cms in the air.
Not only does it look great, it rotates in a calming manner, which also helps your plant to get 360 degree sunlight and grow evenly.

Floately sell four different designs of floating plant pot, as well as very clever lamps and even a levitating bluetooth speaker.
I chose Airsai style 1; a simple wood-effect planter with a matching circular base.
It is worth noting that the plant pot is made of plastic with wood effect, not from wood. From a short distance you wouldn’t be able to tell but close up it looks cheaper than you might be expecting.
The base of the Floately Airsai measures 15cm across and the pot is 9cm at its widest part with a depth of 5cm. It levitates around 1-2cm off the base which looks amazing and will delight and fascinate visitors (and particularly kids!).
Note that the Floately Airsai package does not include a plant. The pot is quite small and does not have drainage so if you want your Airsai plant to thrive you will need to purchase a small plant with a small root system such as a succulent or air plant.
How to get the Floately Airsai floating planter to work
So how do you get the Floately Airsai floating plant to levitate? At first you might feel that it can’t possibly be done, but stick with it and soon it’ll be easy peasy.
Firstly you need to place the base on a flat, level, non-metallic surface such as a desk or shelf, and then and plug in the adapter.
This is the tricky bit: You need to hold the plant pot directly above the centre of the base with both hands and then slowly lower it down towards the base. When you feel resistance, adjust the planter until you can feel it gently releasing.
Keep the plant pot stable for a few seconds. When you can feel that it’s almost balanced in mid-air, you need to slowly let go until the planter begins to rotate by itself. You can give it a little push to get it on its way.
This is definitely one of those things that gets easier with practise. The first few times I felt like I’d never get it and had to turn it off and put it away because I thought it might be broken! However a little perseverance and patience and we got there in the end and once you know how, it becomes a lot easier and you’ll be able to impress people with your wizardry.
