It might be time to take the sides off the cot and let your toddler have more freedom in their bedroom. Scary stuff! Don’t worry though; there are loads of practical, safe toddler girls bedroom ideas which you and your toddler will love. Here are some of my toddler girls bedroom ideas!
Toddler girls bedroom ideas that just make sense
A low bunk bed with a gate
If your toddler girl has outgrown her cot, then it’s time to look at Big Girl Beds! If you don’t have a cot bed which can be converted, then bunk beds are a great investment if you think that maybe you’re not done growing your family, or perhaps you want to have the option for siblings to share when guests stay over and are limited on space.
If you’re not quite sure they’re ready for a full set of bunk beds (and they aren’t recommended for children under five years old), there are options for futureproofing so you don’t end up having to buy new beds twice – they aren’t cheap!
Companies such as Kids Funtime Beds (you can read our glowing review here) make low, child-friendly bunk beds which are not only full-sized with adult mattresses (so will suit your toddler girls bedroom until she is old enough to have other ideas) but also safe, even if you toddler is a bit of a climber, with carpeted stairs to reach the top bunk rather than the traditional ladder.
The best thing about this style of toddler bunkbed is that they can be bought with a gate to stop little people getting up to the second bunk until they are old enough to sleep there or whenever they are unaccompanied. They worked really well for us.
A bean bag provides seating
Seating is a must-have for story time in any toddler girls bedroom but they take up a lot of room and the temptation to use them as clothes storage is always there! Also, for a toddler bedroom, safety is key and anything that can be climbed on or tipped over could pose a potential safety risk.
As an alternative toddler girls bedroom idea, why not opt for a large, comfy beanbag such as these ones by Big Bertha Original. Bean bags are much lighter than traditional furniture, and easily popped on top of the bed should you need to get underneath it to clean. A toddler can easily climb on and off all by themselves – the only problem is whether you can leap out without help! (I favour the drop and roll system myself).

Safe and practical toy storage
The key to storage in toddler bedrooms is:
- Do not have anything that can be climbed up
- Do not have anything that can close on their fingers
- Affix EVERYTHING to the wall, safely.
Kallax units with boxes are a really cheap, easy storage solution for toys but the units lend themselves to acting as ladders, and if you have a small climbing toddler then it could be wise to avoid this type in the bedroom. Similarly, traditional style toyboxes with a lid that opens can be used to store all manner of toys and fancy dress outfits, but unless they are soft closing they could pose a danger when your toddler is unaccompanied in their bedroom.
You have two options; you can cordon off this part of the room with a safety gate, or you can opt for more toddler-friendly storage, such as the Trofast boxes from Ikea (as above, RRP £90) with buckets that slide in and out, and front opening, soft-close cupboards.
Pretty décor for toddler girls bedroom ideas
When my daughter was a toddler, she loved everything pink and sparkly and had her room decorated to match. We covered our toddler girls bunkbed with unicorn stickers and sparkly gems which are easy to peel off should they decide they don’t like unicorns/flowers/kittens any more.
Mirror tile stickers
Little children love to admire their own reflection, so a pack of cheap adhesive mirror tiles attached to the walls or furniture at a good height will allow them to watch themselves and are a lot safer than a free standing mirror.
Flowers
Flowers are the ultimate in girly décor and flower walls are increasingly popular; you can buy artificial plant tiles for £5 each from Ikea and fake flowers to add to give the room a pretty floral vibe. Keep up high and out of reach so little hands don’t pull on the plants.
Fairy lights
Remote controlled fairy lights or LED lights can add a bit of sparkle and glitter to your toddler girls bedroom. Make sure that these are affixed high up where they cannot be accessed and any wires are safely tucked out of reach, plugged in behind furniture (hence the remote control comes in handy!).
Bed tent
Bed tents or canopies make bedtime really exciting and are one of my favourite toddler girls bedroom ideas. Make sure that they’re properly set up underneath the mattress so that they can’t be untucked and cause mischief.
Wall stickers or canvases
Rather than painting walls a block colour, you can make your toddler girl’s bedroom individual with wall stickers or canvases – the benefit of this is that if they happen to grow out of Disney princesses, for example, then they can be easily peeled off or taken down and replaced without the need to re-decorate. From experience, unicorns are a popular theme with little girls!
And some tech!
Although I think a TV in a child’s bedroom is a no-no, I’m all for screen-free entertainment. We cannot praise our Yoto Player enough; it’s an audio player that also acts as a clock, and can be used as a sleep training aid with toddlers in place of the hallowed Gro Clock.
