This is a collaborative post: With new year, we’re used to thinking about new goals, but how often do we take the time to think about our family goals? Eating healthier? More quality time together?
Whatever your Family goals are, they’re only as important as achieving them. If you have certain things that you still haven’t met, then it is time to rise and do something this year. When it comes to your goals, you need to stay dedicated and focused at all times. Here are some of the best ways to achieve your family goals this year.
Get Out Of The Comfort Zone
Being in the comfort zone is one of the worst things you can ever do while trying to achieve any goals, let alone family ones. Those who live in their comfort zones tend to be aware of what needs to be done but have less enthusiasm to actually do them.
Don’t let this year be like the previous ones. To get out of your comfort and make a difference, you need to push yourself beyond the limits. Make sure that you use every opportunity to do something each day, and make a record of it. You’ll look back and smile with satisfaction about the progress you’ve made after a short while.
If you successfully step out of your comfort zone, you won’t be afraid to achieve your family goals. You will be super-focused, and challenges that come your way will eventually turn into stepping stones.
The first step toward leaving the comfort zone is by identifying the cause. What’s stopping you from that family goal at the moment?
Reimagine Your Goals
If you have big family goals that require more time and effort to achieve, you need to consider not replacing them, but reimagining them. Your goals become easily achievable when you work on it bit by bit.
For instance, I hear a lot from dads who want to achieve better quality time and bond with their kids all the better. Part of the goal there is actually being present, and another way to think of that goal is how you spend that time together. I see a lot of dads creating their own personal ‘dad-space’ by getting a teepee tent for kids that does that exact job.
Though big plans can always seem hard to attain, you only need to change the game plan, and you are good to go. For example, if your big family goal involves supporting your family better financially, you can always start small by funding their projects and encouraging them to start with whatever little they’ve got.
Sit down and divide your goals into segments that you can attain each day. It doesn’t matter if you take several months to achieve your family goals, as long as you stay on the right track.
Be Flexible
The road toward success isn’t going to be clearly laid out for you. There will be bumps, and at some point, you will feel like giving up, but you must keep pushing. If you are going to be happy at the end of the day, you need to be unstoppable.
Being flexible means having a high level of resilience. If you fall flat on your face due to inevitable mistakes you made along the way, come up with a solution as fast as you can and keep going.
Flexible individuals also tend to be open-minded. Take a look at what is happening around you and how they will affect your goals and make the necessary changes whenever possible.
Unless you are flexible, even if you manage to attain your family goals this year, the entire process will take longer than expected. Therefore, be ready to learn fast and act fast.
Set Realistic Goals
It is okay to set family goals and ensure that you have attained them. However, it is wrong to set unrealistic goals to impress the people around you. If that is what you have been doing, then you are treading on shaky ground.
Ensure that you sit your loved ones down and come with meaningful goals that will change your lives because they are realistic. For example, saying that you want to build a house for each of your four kids within two months is nearly impossible, unless you intend to give them something substandard (which you obviously don’t).
Take your time and think about the things that your family needs the most. Let your loved ones suggest what they would like to have, and think about how you can achieve them. That way, you will end up with reasonable goals that are not so hard to attain.
Final Thoughts
Family goals are a vital, yet often under-thought about start to the new year. Focus on making progress rather than worrying about the end goal everyday. Regardless of how long it takes to get what you want for your family, progress day by day makes a huge difference.
