Five parts of your body you mustn’t neglect during lockdown

This is a collaborative post

The coronavirus pandemic has completely changed our way of life in a matter of weeks. We’re all adjusting to the “new normal” and doing our best to keep our homes clean and tidy, educate our kids to an Ofsted-worthy standard and (if we have time) find a way to do our day jobs from home (at reduced pay, of course). On top of all this, we’re also trying to keep ourselves and our families in tip top health. It’s enough to challenge even the most saintly of us.

Indeed, we may be doing well in managing the broad strokes of our health. Eating well is certainly a lot easier at the moment. Since fast food and processed convenience foods are less omnipresent, it’s easier to get more healthy wholefoods on our plates. We’re also finding new and inventive ways to get a great workout at home. But keeping ourselves in good health is about managing the minutiae as well as the big picture.

With this in mind, make sure you take care of these 5 parts of your body under lockdown…

Your skin

You may not be aware of it yet, but this current lockdown is wreaking havoc with your skin. Our skin needs access to the vitamin D in sunlight and artificial light and heating won’t be doing it any favours, either. Make sure that you’re cleansing and moisturising your skin regularly. It’s also a good idea to take an A-Z vitamin supplement as well as skin-saving minerals like magnesium and zinc.

Speaking of minerals, you should also be aware of magnesium effect on heart, because it’s highly beneficial for heart health, as well.

Your hands

In the current climate, the average Brit is washing their hands approximately 467,382 times a day. And all that soap, water and alcoholic sanitising gell is going to take a toll on our poor mitts. Make sure you apply hand cream after washing lest your hands become a sore, cracked mess.

Your teeth and mouth

Who knows when you’ll next be able to see your dentist? Just to be on the safe side, it’s advisable to take extra special care with your teeth while under lockdown. That means more than just brushing twice a day. To be on the safe side you should floss twice a day and use mouthwash after brushing. Indeed, you should really brush after eating anything, especially something sweet.

Your feet

Just because you’re spending less time outdoors doesn’t mean that you’re not putting spending a lot of time on your feet. As such, you should take care of yours, treating them to a long soak and a once over with a pumice stone at least once a week. If you start to notice any change in the colour or consistency of your nails, invest in a Fungal Nail Treatment. Not only can this send the infection packing, it can help to prevent future infections.

Your gut

Finally, digestive health plays a huge part in your overall health and ensures that you get optimum nourishment from the food you eat. Furthermore, the ecosystem living in your gut is often referred to as the “second brain” and plays a part in the health of many major organs and even your mental health. Make sure you’re getting plenty of fibre, take smaller bites and chew more slowly to ensure that your gut is in good nick.
