The trend in recent years may have been for muted grey and monochrome interiors, but now it’s all about the colour, and the brighter the better! Adding different colours into your décor scheme can boost your mood, help you concentrate, and bring a sense of calm and serene to your space so whatever you want from your home, you can find a colour to suit you.
Whatever floats your boat colour-wise, here are some easy ways to introduce some colour and fun into your home.
Make use of patterns
If you’re not feeling brave enough for a full on colour-assault to the senses, then adding patterns can add a pop of colour without closing the space in too much.
Using patterns in your interiors can inject a lot of fun and personality to any space. However if you want to get creative with patterns you need to be careful. Go too crazy with them and everything could end up looking a bit overwhelming and messy; you could regret it.
A good rule is to stick to one pattern per room; whether that’s walls, floors, curtains or furnishings, and then use block colour elsewhere.
Try a patterned wallpaper
Not everyone likes using wallpapers; many people prefer to paint walls and avoid using paper if they can. However, if you want to add a pattern it is so much easier to do this with wallpaper.
Patterned wallpaper can give a fantastic look to a room. If you’re wary of using it, you don’t have to cover an entire room in patterned paper; you can start out with just one wall and perhaps leave it as a feature wall. It will really stand out if you surround it with a solid colour on the other walls.
Use colourful tiles

Kitchens are one of the hardest rooms to brighten up. Replacing or even painting cupboards is a big job and can end up making the space look small and dingy.
Adding kitchen tiles in block colours or patterns can give the space an instant uplift, and buying new colourful accessories for example a colourful kettle and toaster can make a big difference!
Treat yourself to new artwork
Featuring colourful artwork on the wall is a way to temporarily brighten up and change the colour scheme in any room. Posters or even wall hangings can bring in that pop of colour, with no painting or decorating required!
Add bright textiles
Many people choose to add colour to a room through the use of textiles. Brightly coloured textiles pair perfectly with both rustic furniture or contemporary pieces.
By doing so, you can add and remove things when you feel like it and change the colour scheme up when it takes your fancy; it’s much easier to replace a cushion or a throw than it is to re-tile or change wallpaper.
Another thing that can look great with a bright, bold colourful pattern is your curtains. Curtains are large enough to make a statement, but they don’t have to dominate the whole room. You can also try a colourful rug.
Re-think upholstery

If you want to go slightly further than textile accessories, you can also consider bright colours or patterns on upholstered furniture. These are a little more permanent since it’s a bit more effort to switch out a chair or sofa for a new item, although it can be reupholstered it’s fairly expensive!
Many people prefer to keep their upholstered furniture solid colours, but a patterned piece can have a huge impact. If you’re looking for a statement piece, a patterned sofa, armchair or perhaps headboard for your bed could be what you need.
