This is a collaborative post: In just a few short days it will be Christmas Day. I know, I know, how did that sneak up?! Hopefully you have done your gift shopping by now (and if not, then check out this post for some very last minute ideas) and aren’t having a panic over the turkey being left off the Tesco delivery.
When it comes to Christmas and what to wear, I feel like it’s worth making an effort, if only because unlike every other day of the year I might actually remember to take (and appear in!) family photos.
So if you haven’t thought about it yet, it might be time to consider your Christmas Day outfit as lord knows, the kids aren’t going to give you time and space to decide on the day!
Here’s what I’ll be wearing…
Christmas Eve Party:
I’m (unusually!) heading out for a meal on Christmas Eve and because it’s so close to Christmas, I’m earing this glittery red dress which is brilliantly festive but also really flattering and stretchy. You could certainly eat a lot of your Christmas dinner before it started to feel tight.

Christmas is one of two occasions each year that it’s totally acceptable to wear head-to-toe glitter (the other being New Year’s Eve, of course, but I’m way too old for that kind of malarkey) but, if glitter isn’t your thing, then a long-sleeved dress in red, green or tartan is also a great option for a Christmas night out. Even black, if you’d prefer something more monochrome.

I’ll be pairing it with some thick black tights and ankle boots, because as lovely as strappy sandals are it’s TOO COLD FOR THAT NONSENSE. I genuinely can’t believe that I used to go out with a coat in winter. Brrr.
Breakfast:
If you have kids, then the likelihood is that they’re going to get up EARLY and go from 0 to 60 in the time it takes to dump the content of their stocking on the bed.

It’s too early to get dressed, you haven’t even had coffee/first Christmas Bucks Fizz yet, so go for some Christmas PJs (if you’re feeling particularly festive then matching family pyjamas make for a fun Christmas morning photo, even if you do look like you’re hanging on by a thread.
Or, it’s very cold this year, how about a onesie? I have made a lot of use out of my favourite penguin onesie, even though my children have both outgrown theirs now…

Christmas daytime:
Some people like to get dressed up for Christmas day and I totally respect that – why not take any excuse! – but personally I’m all about being casual and comfortable particularly when a lot of it is going to be spent in the kitchen, or on the floor with the kids inspecting their gifts.
I’m a huge fan of the Christmas jumper and it makes me sad that as soon as Christmas day is over, they have to be put back in the storage until the following 1st December – so to me, it’s important to get as much use as possible out of them.

There are a billion different Christmas jumpers out there. You can go super tacky with flashing lights and music (yes, I genuinely have one of these – I didn’t buy it myself!) or my personal preference is for a slight more tasteful winter jumper.
Pair with a long pleated skirt and trainers, or if you want something even more casual then a comfy pair of jeans like something from the Women’s Jeans Collection from Lands End and some knee high or ankle boots.

To give it a bit more sparkle you can add your favourite jewellery; when else are you going to wear it if not on Christmas day?
Whatever you wear, make sure you have a wonderful day and take plenty of pictures!
