Why I chose floral wallpaper for my home

This is a collaborative post: Have you used wallpaper in your home? If you’re like me, you occasionally paint your home to give it a facelift. Maybe you do this every year or once every few years. I was an avid painter for quite a while and even enjoyed painting the walls myself. All this while, I had not thought of using wallpaper. Sure, it looked great on people’s walls, but I could not bring myself to deal with the pasty mess that came with the installation. Of course, this was before I came across removable wallpaper and learned that I could skip the mess and go straight to enjoying the paper. You can guess what I did right after that- toying with ideas of which wallpaper I would use in my home.

Why I Used Floral Wallpaper

There are tons of wallpaper options, but some seem to take the day- these include botanical and floral patterns. I could have gone with the same old patterns that adorn every other home. But instead, my heart ached for a flowers wallpaper, and here’s why:

Relaxation

How do you feel when you walk into a garden with blooming flowers? It’s almost like the weight on your shoulders disappears, and you suddenly feel lighter and cheerier. I live for gardens and always want to surround myself with nature. But if we’re being honest, caring for flowers takes a lot of work and dedication. So, the easier way to have flowers blooming year-round is to use floral wallpaper.

Research backs me on this point. Scientists have found that being in nature has a calming effect on human beings. It allows you to relax by calming your nervous system. If you’ve been having a hard time unwinding when you get home, this might be what you need. It even calms the guests who walk into your space. So, if you want to create a space that feels welcoming and non-threatening, here’s a pointer.

Better Mental Health

Do you remember what it was like during the first COVID-19 lockdown? People could no longer leave their homes and were stuck in spaces surrounded by white walls. It did not take long for people to start experiencing negative emotions and feeling lost. They had nothing to occupy their minds other than the constant bad news playing on all platforms.

Some people took this time to work on the aesthetics of their homes. They revamped their spaces, included more plants, and increased the lighting. The result? – they were still not happy about being locked down, but they could now face it with a smile. Why was this? Our environments shape our experiences. When you are in a room surrounded by colorful themes, you are less likely to be aggressive and stressed. It’s all about the calming nature of these elements.

Floral wallpaper takes a win in this case. It boasts calming effects and is an easy way to make a room feel more relaxing. If you’re relaxed, you’re better poised to receive bad news and handle it in a non-aggressive manner. So, using this wallpaper in areas like bedrooms and living areas where people relax significantly changes the ambiance.

Complementary Effects

By the time I decided to use wallpaper in my home, almost everything was in place. I had already chosen the furniture, fittings, accessories, and even the primary colors. So, my focal point was already set, and anything else coming into the space had to be complementary. The beauty of floral wallpapers is that they add to a room rather than take it over.

Why? They come in a wide variety. You’ve got small prints, large murals, and everything in between. It’s easy to find something that can match the décor you already have going in the home. Even if you do not use the exact colors in your space, it’s easy to match florals with most color schemes. I’ll also add the fact that removable wallpaper is also peelable. If you want to switch up the themes now and then, you can have a go at it. It’s a wallpaper that keeps on giving.

Focus

What do your guests see on entering your home? Every space needs a focal point. I once undermined the importance of this emphasis but came to realize that its absence made a room feel bare. Suppose you are yet to choose fittings and furniture for your space. Or you have already done so but are yet to decide on what the focal point should be. You can use floral wallpaper to create this effect.

How? There are two main ways to do this. The first is to choose a bare wall and lay floral wallpaper all over it. If all the other walls are bare, the eyes will be drawn to the one wall that has a splash of color and patterns. You can choose almost any color, and it would still stand out. You can then build the other elements around this as complements.

The other option now taking over the market is to frame the wallpaper. Instead of buying art, you find a lovely wallpaper pattern and enclose it in a beautiful frame. People walking into your space will be in awe of the colorful art before them. So, it saves you money and still allows you to enjoy that wow effect. I did this for my dining room, and it’s been a conversation starter ever since.

These are only two ways you can make a wallpaper the focal point. Can you think of any others?

Transformation

Do you have a room that seems to be very bare and boring? Maybe its look is outdated, and everything seems out of place. It could be your porch, or hallway, or any other space you have not paid much attention to in the past. Here’s a way you can update it without breaking the bank- using a floral wallpaper. This simple act will breathe life into the space and make it livelier, enabling it to mesh with the feel in the entire home.

If you want to enhance the beauty of your space, flower wallpapers are the way to go. It’s hard to beat their benefits, making me believe that their popularity has only just begun.
