This summer has been the weirdest I’ve ever experienced, weather-wise. One day we have scorching 40-degree heat and the only thing we can do is hang out in the paddling pool, the next day it’s waterproofs on to tackle the torrential rain.
Sometimes, it’s both in one day and it can catch you entirely unprepared.
Luckily, I have found Loom waterproof trainers to be the perfect solution.
They look much like any other pair of trainers, but they claim to be completely waterproof. Not just in a splash-resistant way like a sturdy pair of walking boots or Doc Martens might be, but in a water-repellent, you can stand in the middle of a puddle and nothing will seep through kind of way.
Like a pair of wellies, but much less weird to wear in the middle of summer, and a lot more comfortable.
Loom waterproof trainers come in an off-white or black colour.
They come in American sizing but there is a size chart on the website. They suggest that if you’re between sizes then you size up as they come up small. I usually wear a very average size six, but as Loom trainers come in a US 9/Eur 40 which is equivalent to a UK 6.5, I went for those and they are slightly bigger than I expected, but not noticeably, and they are perfectly comfortable.
They offer trainers for both men and women however they look very much the same on the website.
Loom waterproof sneakers have a really squishy cushioned shock-absorbing sole lined with merino wool which makes the trainers really comfortable to wear, and despite being waterproof they are padded and breathable so they don’t make your feet really hot and sweaty which was my fear.
They also claim to be anti-odour; I need to go out on a much longer walk before I can confirm or deny this one because obviously my feet smell of roses.
But do Loom waterproof trainers work?
Well, simply put, yes.
Even standing in a huge puddle (in the middle of fricking AUGUST) they repel the water entirely. There is no seepage, even at the seams. In fact they came out looking good as new!
Being a bit vain for a moment, my only personal criticism is the look; I would probably have preferred a darker sole on the black trainers, although I’m sure that after some use they won’t be quite so white!
A range of different styles and colours would be great as not everyone is into the monochrome look – but in terms of comfort and being waterproof they are great and for walking, they are much more lightweight than any hiking boots or walking shoes that I own and they look better too. On first glance you wouldn’t immediately think that they were a walking shoe.
