Stop your bedroom from getting so messy

This is a collaborative post: Every room gets messy over time, but it seems like the bedroom is one of the biggest problem areas of any home. Because of the fact that we sleep there, change there, and store a lot of fabrics, there’s a lot of dust that can build up. Furthermore, we store so much of what we need from day to day in that room, the clutter can easily build up. Here, we’re going to look at how you can stop your bedroom from getting quite as messy as it might be.

Deal with dust on the regular

The bedroom is going to deal with more dust than other rooms in the home. That’s a simple fact. The dead skin cells we shed while sleeping, the dust that gathers from clothing fabrics, and more make it a dustier room. For that reason, you need a good vacuum and you need to be ready to tackle the room on a regular basis for a quick once-over. Schedule it a couple of times a week to stop it from building up to the point it becomes a whole day affair.

Get some organized storage

If you find that you’re leaving clothes or shoes lying around out in the open or, even worse, letting the dreaded pile form on the floor or a chair, then you are going to need more storage. Get a new wardrobe for your bedroom, making sure it has enough space that is organized and ready to start separating different kinds of garments. Otherwise, consider some drawers that can go with your existing wardrobe. Try to keep your storage organized and sectioned so that it’s much more accessible and neat, rather than a hassle you have to untangle every now and then.

Use temporary storage as well

Sometimes, you’re not in a space where you’re going to separate out everything and put them back exactly where they belong. Sometimes you can just be too tired for that. When that happens, it’s a good idea to have some temporary storage that you can use, instead. This can include a wicker basket you keep under your bed for clothes you take off, rather than leaving them on the floor. Similarly, you can keep a bowl or tray on your bedside table for the odds and ends. Then, when you have a little more time, you can ensure that everything makes it back to the right place.

Clear out your junk once in a while

The tips above are all well and good until you start gathering so much clothing and other knick-knacks that they become kind of useless. When that happens, you need to cut the clutter. For instance, go through your wardrobe and take out each item, piece by piece, deciding which ones you really want and which you can get rid of. This should be done every couple of months for each storage space and surface.

The tips above can’t stop you from having to clean your bedroom, but they can make it a lot easier to keep it presentable.
