Post by Allen Scott: Being a parent for the first time is extremely exciting, but at the same time, it might feel overwhelming. Becoming a first-time parent means you feel a lot more responsible and you want to get everything right and do what is best for your baby even before it is born. If you ask friends and family members who have had a baby or two before you about the must-haves in the parenting world, you will get tons of responses depending on each one’s experience and lifestyle. However, there are things that almost all people agree are essential for new parents to get. Here are 3 of these and why we think you should have them added to your list.
- An Adjustable Crib
Babies share the needs of grown human beings, they need to eat, poop, and of course sleep. When you are working on the nursery and after deciding upon the colors of the walls and how to decorate the room you should put good thought into the crib you are going to buy. Getting a baby to sleep will be challenging in the beginning, but a bit by bit you will learn the tricks. Having a nice crib with a comfortable mattress helps your baby get the rest they need. Choose a crib that can be adjusted to the baby’s age. It is pointless to keep getting a new crib whenever the baby outgrows the first. You might want to consider buying a crib that can be put very close beside your bed with the ability to lower one of its sides and consider it an extension to your bed. That way it would be easier to put the baby down to sleep after feeding or trying to comfort them when they cry.
- A Baby Monitor
At some point, you will put the baby in a separate room. Leaving a baby in a room and going to bed is hard for parents because they want to make sure that their baby is safe and sound. This is when the monitor comes in handy. A baby monitor is your way to relax and sleep knowing that you will hear them when they cry. You can also use this monitor to check up on your baby if you are not home and they are at home with a sitter. All you have to do is learn more about the monitors and how they work, the different types that are out there to choose from, and what is best for your needs. We know that all that parents care about is to make sure their little ones are safe and are having a good time.
- A Dependable Car Seat
Parents tend to postpone buying a car seat thinking that they will not have to move with their infants for weeks and weeks. That is not entirely true, you will have to take your baby to checkups to make sure they are doing okay. Holding a baby in your hands in a moving vehicle is not a good idea and not safe for you or the baby. You need to get a car seat that would be comfortable for the baby and at the same time safe. Some seats can only be used for infants and others are convertible and can be used for years to come. To choose, you have to consider your lifestyle and your future plans before you make the purchase.
Baby preparations can feel like too much at the beginning, but once you get your priorities straight, you will feel much better. Simplify matters as much as you can, you don’t have to get every gadget out there. The most important thing your baby needs is your unconditional love and care.
