Keeping yourself occupied with tech during lockdown in 2020

This is a collaborative post

After yet another Zoom call with family and friends, and your 14th quiz of the month, being stuck indoors is probably starting to get a little tiresome by now. And at this point, you are probably wondering just how many more times you can name the song (and artist for a bonus point) before you go mad. Between quizzes and keeping the kids entertained, 2020 has probably turned out somewhat stressful. Luckily in this age of technological wonder, with a little bit of shopping around you can pick up some fancy tech that may just help alleviate the boredom, if only for a couple of weeks more.

A streaming device

These days there are that many different services to stream from that it can be a pain to have to swap back and forth between phone, tablet, TV, or computer just to pick something to watch. A good streaming stick such as the ones provided by Google or Amazon give you a single device to steam to, especially if your TV isn’t a newer Smart TV. This provides most of your streaming services all in one handy-to-watch place, meaning that you don’t need to constantly keep swapping out HDMI cables from around the back of the TV

DAB Radio

For some great background noise, while the kids and dogs drive you mad, a DAB radio is a perfect addition to any household. With most having Bluetooth or other wireless connectivity you can pick and choose from your favourite stations or stream from your phone. Whichever is best for you.

Fortunately (or unfortunately if you’re indecisive) the market is absolutely flooded with any amounts of DAB Radio units and it can be difficult to know which one to choose. If you plan on moving it around the house a lot with you or plan on having it in the garden, get one with a decent battery. Many are rechargeable instead of using AA or AAA, so you’re probably best getting one of them to save in the long run.

Smart Speaker

In the same line as a DAB radio, a smart speaker will help you play the tunes of your summer all from the comfort of your front room. With the big brands such as the Amazon Alexa or Google Home to pick from and with mini versions available, you can pick one that suits your budget and needs quite easily. A voice-controlled radio that also tells a funny joke when you ask? A perfect way to keep yourself occupied for a few days.

A home projector

Home-sized and portable projectors are quickly becoming an excellent and budget-friendly addition to any household looking to put on a magical movie night for the kids, or a romantic night in together. As long as you have a decent-sized wall or bed sheet to hand, you can pick up a home projector for a fairly low price. Some projectors can be very expensive though, especially those pushing out 4K video. Just do your research and shop around if you want to purchase one, so that you get the best deal possible
