This is a collaborative post: When we decide to get away for the day, rarely do we decide to cross a border. However, deciding to hop countries for a day trip can be an exhilarating way to explore more of the world. It is the perfect way to scratch your travel itch without having to organise accommodation or other stressful parts of travel! Here are our top tips to help you plan that day trip.
Get the Right Flights
You will most likely be flying for this trip abroad, so you need to make sure that it is handled correctly. A trip to the airport can be a little bit stressful, but you will only have a day bag with you – not a suitcase – so you should be able to check-in online and breeze straight past security and some of the other long lines.
Try to book flights that leave early in the morning and get back late at night. These can be expensive as they are often in demand, but you might be able to find a good deal here and there. You should also try to stick to flights that are not going to be any longer than two hours. This should give you quite a wide radius to explore in terms of destinations, and you won’t be spending half your day on a plane when you could be exploring!
Get Insured
Yes, you are only going away for a day. However, you still need to make sure that you invest in an insurance policy to help keep yourself safe. You could have an accident, even on this day abroad, and could require medical assistance that means you actually end up staying there longer than anticipated. Your flights home could also be cancelled, forcing you to find a hotel room for the night until you can get home.
Some of the costs of both of these events can be mitigated with the right insurance policy. Ensuring that you have a policy for a short trip, such as those offered by Staysure travel insurance, means that you will be properly protected should something happen when you are away. No one wants to get stranded in a foreign country at the best of times, but it can be especially aggravating if you were to only be there for a day!
Plan Properly
With just a day abroad, you could have between eight and twelve hours in your chosen destination. That might seem like a lot, but it will pass faster than you expect. For this reason, it is incredibly important that you plan your trip properly, so you know what you want to do.
For example, you might decide to go to a city like Amsterdam, where many of the major attractions are quite close together. This means that you will be able to zip around without too much issue. However, if you were to go to a city like London, you would have to factor in time on public transport, unless you were to stay in just one area. Inevitably, there will be some things that you won’t be able to do and see, but that just means that you will have to come back again!
Deciding to go on a day trip abroad can be a fantastic way to see some of the best cities around the world. It can be great for a spontaneous holiday, or it could be something that you have planned out for months in advance. No matter what, make sure that you at least plan the points we have listed above. Hopefully, your day trip will be a new favourite way for you to travel!
