Rooms That Will Benefit
In new builds and renovated homes there are regulations in place for fire doors. If there’s a doorframe between a kitchen and integral garage, that doorframe must have a fire door installed. Any building with three or more storeys also requires fire doors to be hung in the frames of habitable rooms. This means bedrooms must have fire doors but linen cupboards don’t require them.
If you are installing new doors, it is a good idea to purchase fire doors for kitchens, rooms with a fireplace and rooms with electronics. Those games consoles and TVs get very hot, even in standby. It isn’t unheard of for a forgotten phone charger left in the mains to cause a house fire.
FD30 Fire Doors
FD30 doors provide approximately 30 minutes of fire protection. This can keep a fire isolated in one room for half an hour. It allows the home’s occupants time to escape. In some cases, it can save property in other rooms if the fire is put out before it spreads. Do not attempt to put out the fire yourself.
Smoke Alarms
Fire doors don’t work alone and they need to be shut to work at all. A smoke alarm alerts the home’s occupants to smoke. This allows escape from the home. Keep all doors free of clutter. That way they can be closed at night, preventing fire from travelling between rooms.
No Obstacles
Furniture needs to be arranged in a way that it doesn’t prevent escape in the dark in the middle of the night.
