Nine ways to buy jewellery for someone you love

This is a collaborative post: Buying jewellery for somebody you love can be a great way to show them that you care. Whether this is for a special occasion like a birthday or an anniversary, or even ‘just because’, the advice here will help you to select the perfect piece.

Look At Their Current Jewellery Collection and Identify The Gaps

Start by taking a look at their current jewellery collection if you can and identify the gaps. Do they have a solid collection of necklaces, rings, and bracelets, or does something look a little sparse? You don’t want to get them anything too similar to what they already have!

Figure Out Their Favourite Style

It’s also important to figure out their favourite style. Do they seem to have lots of classic pieces, or eclectic bits? Some people will prefer classic pieces to go with everything, others like more colourful, statement pieces like Hip Hop Jewellery

Make Sure You Consider Their Lifestyle

As well as their style, you need to consider their lifestyle. If they spend a lot of time doing chores and going to the gym, they will probably only wear a nice ring for special occasions. In this case, it might be better to get them a pair of earrings, as they’ll be able to wear them every day without worry of chemical damage, losing a stone, or other jewellery issues people have when wearing them to do chores.

If In Doubt – Go For A Watch

If you’re ever in doubt about what to buy, go for a watch. A watch is a pretty safe bet, providing they don’t already have a vast collection! Look at the history of Casio watches to see if you can get inspired.

Don’t Buy For Your Own Tastes

You really need to work on taking yourself out of the equation and not going for something you would wear. Don’t let your own tastes cloud what you buy for this person, or you might be disappointed when they don’t wear it.

Give Something With Meaning

See if you can give something with a special meaning, such as a piece personalised with a special date, or something with an anchor charm to remind them of an amazing boat trip you have taken together. Get creative and use jewellery as a way to help them remember all of the amazing things you have been through.

Ask Their Best Friend

Assuming you’re not their best friend, ask their best friend or one of their other friends. They may be able to offer some insight, and may even have a specific idea of what it is they would want.

If Unsure, Go For A Classic

If you’re still really unsure, then a pair of simple earrings or a simple chain can make a great gift as they go with everything and can be worn with a plethora of outfits.

Ask!

Still panicking that they won’t like what you buy? Just ask them. You could try to hint, but it’s often better to be upfront if you really want to know. You could even take them on a shopping trip, or show them a website like Iced Out Jewellery, and let them choose the piece themselves.
