Affordable Ways To Breath New Life In Your Living Room

Affordable Ways to Revamp Your Living Room

This is a collaborative post: If you are someone who likes to switch around their decor often, you are well aware of how expensive revamping the rooms in your home can be. But the good news is that redoing any room in your house, especially the living room, doesn’t have to be a grand and costly affair.

There are many cheap and easy ways to update the room on your own, from changing the lighting features with a range of LED lights to thrifting pieces of secondhand furniture. Your weekend DIY tasks will be anything but challenging.

Rearrange the Furniture

The simplest and cheapest way to give your living room a new breath of life is by rearranging the furniture. It will give the room a completely new look and satisfy your desire for change without costing a cent.

If you have pieces you are unable to move yourself or that cannot be accommodated elsewhere, try rearranging your accessories and bookshelf display. This is a great way to reevaluate the items you own, declutter pieces you no longer want and try new display ideas.

Hang Artwork

If your living room has very little or nothing hanging on the walls, it can feel bare and boring. To prevent this from happening, and add interesting and creative pieces to the room, hang up various works of art

The idea that art needs to break the bank to be enjoyable is a myth, so get your creative juices flowing and design your own pieces. Alternatively, if you don’t trust your artistic skill, take your favourite prints or aesthetically pleasing pages from old books and put them into matching frames. It will instantly add an eye-catching feature to the room.

New Curtains

Curtains in any room strongly dictate the amount of light that space will get. If your living room has dark and heavy curtains, swap them for lighter materials or a softer colour palette for an instant change. It can make the lounge feel brighter and bigger.

Be aware that your change may affect the level of privacy you have. For peace of mind, add a lace curtain alongside your new choice to allow light but block the view of anyone who may be looking in.

Paint

Giving your living room a fresh lick of paint is one of the most obvious ways to refresh and revamp. You can choose to change the entire room, paint a featured wall, or add accent designs along the skirting boards and ceiling panels.

But don’t stop at just the walls. Furniture can be revitalised with paint, from bookshelves to side tables. Before painting wood, research the best way to treat the furniture before application. Alternatively, skip the colour and use varnish to change the shade, making it feel brand new.

Swap Lampshades

An often overlooked decorative feature, lampshades are like gems scattered throughout the home. When you change them, you change the entire mood because lighting plays a significant role in creating the feel of a room.

Going from light to dark, flat to pleated or plain to patterned will affect the way light reaches around the room while being a distinctive design feature. Many affordable options are available these days, so finding the perfect choice for your creative needs won’t be a challenge.

Mix & Match Pillows

They might take up too much room or be irritating to sit on while watching television. But the truth is, decorative cushions and throw blankets can go a long way in adding a decorative pop of colour or attractive patterned design.

Changing them out for each season or significant holiday is an easy and fun way to refresh the room. Dark, heavy materials are perfect for cosy winters, while light and bright is a welcoming sight for spring.

Remove the Clutter.

When in doubt, simplify. Too much clutter can make any space feel small, busy and claustrophobic. To lighten an area and create a calmer, more inviting atmosphere, remove the items you no longer want, need or use.

Be sure not to fall into the trap of replacing removed items with more. The goal of the exercise is to get rid of things and create more room. Simply replacing them with other items will keep you stuck in the same hole.

Incorporate a Mirror

Incorporating a mirror into the lounge is a brilliant way of adding a functional design piece to your space, as it can be used to create an illusion of a room being bigger than it actually is. It can be floor length or small enough to hang on the wall, but placing it opposite a window will make the entire room feel larger and more spacious.

Thrift!

If you are after new pieces of furniture or small accent pieces, you don’t need to break the budget to do so. Instead, hit your local thrift store or secondhand shop. Repurposing old furniture, ceramics, and materials is good for the environment and will allow you to make changes cheaply.

Furthermore, you never really know what you might come across while shopping, giving you the opportunity to stumble across an item you never knew you needed but cannot live without—the perfect finishing touch to any space.
