A survey commissioned last year by Checkatrade, which connects homeowners with approved local traders, found that people are keen to create a garden space which caters to their work-life balance, despite most of us having long since returned to the office following the Covid pandemic.
Some (16%) wanted to turn a shed or outbuilding into a home study; a similar number planned to fit a new garden room, while slightly fewer (14%) wished to install a conservatory.
Far more (over a quarter or 28%) were eager to give their garden a total overhaul. But whether you desire a minor upgrade or a complete revamp, investing in well-appointed outdoor spaces can significantly raise the appeal of your home, not to mention its value.

Transform your outdoor space with elegant garden furniture
If you’re considering prioritising the bigger outdoor projects, you’re not alone. But sometimes the seemingly smaller additions can be transformative. Think about what investing in some decent furniture for your garden could do, for example.
You could look forward to creating a more inviting space, and to enhancing your back yard’s visual appeal with items which are functional yet stylish and designed to last for years in all weathers.
It becomes far more possible to host guests and entertain friends and family. You can also create a relaxed yet comfortable al fresco base from which to work from home. And don’t forget the mental and physical health benefits of spending time outside in the fresh air and connecting with nature.
A garden table completes a set of furniture designed to go under the sky. Plus it serves as a centrepiece and sets the stage for your enjoyment of your outdoor space. And as well as looking great, garden tables clearly have a functional use, whether you’re enjoying a morning coffee, having an informal family lunch, hosting a dinner party or trying to work or study outside. A patio set without a table at its heart just feels unfinished.
Teak garden tables: feel the benefits
If you go for a model in glorious teak, you’ll be investing in unparalleled elegance and strength for your outdoor sanctuary. This premium wood creates pieces which take the look and quality of any garden up a notch. And you can expect exceptionally long-lasting products with minimal maintenance requirements that will last for decades.
Naturally beautiful and versatile, teak garden tables start life with a delightful golden-brown hue which, over time, turns a silvery grey to give your outdoor furniture a timeless, classic look.
This dense, tropical hardwood’s naturally high oil content keeps moisture damage, and decay at bay.
Essentially, your furniture will withstand the elements while retaining its structural integrity. Finally, teak also self-regulates so that it stays cool in the summer and warm at other times – unlike, say, metal items which can become icy in winter and scalding hot when things heat up.
Don’t forget outdoor drainage
One aspect of outdoor maintenance which may seem less exciting and glamorous, but which is nonetheless essential, is having adequate drainage to stop water from pooling and hindering your enjoyment of your garden. With a decent residential patio drainage channel, you can look forward to enhanced performance for removing surface water from large areas, plus a streamlined design which won’t break the bank. So, ideally, you would consider a drainage system before you so much as lay the first paving slab.
Ultimately, however, if you invest in your outside space and make it your own, you won’t regret it.
