How to surprise your partner on their birthday

This is a collaborative post: It always feels good to surprise a loved one with a gift or experience, and what better time to do this than on their birthday? If there is one time of the year that you can definitely pull out all the stops to let your partner know that you love and appreciate them, it has to be their own special day.

If you’re wondering what to do to really surprise them and make them smile, here are some different ideas for you to consider; the one you pick should match your partner’s likes the best to guarantee that they will love it.

A Romantic Break Away

If you want to really surprise your partner with a romantic gesture, look at a short break away somewhere exciting or romantic so you can get away from it all and be by yourselves. After all, everyone loves the chance to get away from it all now and then.

If you’re going to book a surprise break away, make sure that you check your partner’s passport is in date and valid and that they can get the time off work. These things will need to factor into your plans, as well as booking the accommodation, flights, and working out an itinerary. The planning might not be romantic, but the trip will be.

Make An Indoor Picnic

The weather isn’t always conducive to al fresco dining, but that’s not a problem if you have an indoor picnic. This is a great way to surprise your loved one, and it’s very romantic too.

If you have an open fire (and the weather calls for it), make sure it’s lit, and place a blanket on the floor in front of it. Even without a fire, the blanket is still an important part of the process. Light candles and turn the lights down low and put on some romantic music. Try to resist the urge to turn the television on, even if it’s in the room with you; you need to concentrate on one another, not what’s happening on screen.

As for the food, it really doesn’t have to be anything fancy. You can make sandwiches, for example, or cook a pizza and slice it up. Supermarkets often carry a range of ‘part food’ that can be cooked quickly and served. Or why not simply get some melted chocolate and some items such as strawberries and marshmallows to dip into it? That’s extremely romantic.

Plus, don’t forget the sparkling wine or your partner’s favourite spirits from Ellers Farms Distillery to round things off perfectly.

Make A Photo Album

Not many people print their photos these days; most of the best images we take are stored on our phones or computers, so we don’t get to see them all that often. For a truly romantic surprise gift, buy a photo album and spend some time (and ink) printing the photos off to put into it. Your partner will love looking through the pages and enjoying the memories that the individual images will bring.

If you don’t have a printer that can print good-quality photos, there are places you can go to have the images printed off for you. If there is nowhere near you, you can search online, and you will discover many companies that will do the job – just email the images across, and you will receive them in the post.
