So you think you’re having a really bad day?

Today has been a bad day.

The kind of day that starts with your newly-fixed phone smashed all over the kitchen floor.

The kind of day when, whilst you are distracted picking up the broken remnants of your phone, your baby decides that he can undo his high chair restraints and throw himself out of the high chair, taking a bowl of Readybrek and a pint glass of water with him.

The kind of day where your toddler is guaranteed to have her first accident since attempting to potty train on someone else’s rug.

The kind of day where you put the wine in the fridge well before midday and think about opening it every half hour or so.

The kind of day where, after trying and failing to give a toss, you just say ‘f*ck it’ and let the kids just wreak whatever havoc they wish while you lay prone on the sofa trying your hardest to ignore the constant whinge coming from both of them.

Want to empty every box of toys, one toy at a time, and hide them around the house? Fine.
Want to take the contents out of the change bag to see if you can find anything edible? Be my guest.
Want to sort through the kitchen cupboards and make deafening music with the contents (pots and pans, not the dangerous chemical. Obviously)? Just don’t ask me to join in.

The kind of day when where you give in, and they have pizza and chips for tea. And decide they don’t like pizza. Or chips.

Yeah, that kind of day.

On this kind of day, I like to put the kids to bed as early as I can get away with, shove something unhealthy in the oven, and have a nice big glass of wine. Or the bottle.

Bottoms up. Tomorrow is a new day and all that.

We all have those kind of days. Wine helps. Tomorrow will probably be better – and if not, there's always more wine.

What a rubbish day! I'm there with you, I'm having a hellish day too, H isn't even bed yet, I've got into it with OH again, and I have no wine! Solidarity and all that, we shall overcome!

There must have been something in the water yesterday! Youngest spent it whinging the whole day, demanding everything and anything, then deciding she didn't want it, then she had a nap and I naively hoped she would wake up in a better mood! WRONG, she then screamed the whole way round the supermarket inbetween running from me, climbing shelves and helping herself to food from shelves. Such fun! NOT. I had a huge glass of wine and went to bed and watched The Hangover as that was all my frazzled brain could handle. Today is gonna be better though, right????

Thanks Hayley 🙂 God at least they were in bed by seven. You poor thing. Up at 5 but you can't have everything right??

I had to stop the naps because it was just unbearable afterwards. You are a brave lady for attempting the supermarket. Or maybe a bit silly, do you not have Ocado in Jersey??

  6. I have endless days of putting wine in the fridge early and watching the clock for an 'acceptable' hour lol – sometimes we just gotta ride with the rough, have a shit day and then pray for a better day (that sometimes doesn't come for a week lol) #effitfriday

  7. When is early too early? I think my record was 5.30pm they were in bed! I was shit-faced by 7 and asleep by 8! good times! Tomorrow is a brand new day!

  8. I have a friend who buys those premixed cans of G&T and Jack Daniels & coke and sips them through a straw throughout the day in situations like this… #effitfriday

Oh bless you, that is a bad day – hope you've got your phone sorted and things are looking brighter. It's Friday! #triballove

I know when my wife has those days when I get a text at work that says "when you get home the children are yours tonight"!

I did bedtime tonight and while they had dinner I whizzed around clearing the floor so once they're inbed I could have some time. They rewarded me by going to the toy room and getting every soft toy and piling them round their baby sister.

I'm ignoring the pile as I type this.

I hope you get your evening to recover!

Oh dear, it looks like everything that could go wrong actually did! I hope you did get that wine open because lets be honest, you bloody deserved it. #triballove

I always think "fuck it, make all the mess you like, I don't even care anymore." Followed 10 minutes later by major OCD military cleaning up of toys. Poor kids have to live with a stroppy Jekyl and Hyde…

This is my house. Regularly, and the more wound up I get the more my little terrors realise and shout louder!!!
