Mother’s Day in the UK is on Sunday 14th March.
It’s a particularly poignant day for all mothers and grandmothers who won’t be able to see their children or grandchildren due to lockdown, and haven’t been able to see or hug them for a very long time; last Mother’s Day was unceremoniously cancelled at the last minute and it is looking very likely that this one will be too.

Meals out or afternoon tea might be out of the window, but if you’re looking for a thoughtful gift which you can send by post to make Mother’s Day special, then a canvas print with a recent photograph of the grandkids is a lovely idea.
Photo prints have long been my go-to for grandparent gifts.
They are good for presents year after year because children change so much, and particularly this year, when they haven’t been able to spend time together I’m sure they’ll notice a big difference.

We were invited to try out Asda Photo to see whether they’d make good grandparent gifts for Mother’s Day.
With Asda Photo, you can create your own canvases and gifts in minutes.
Simply upload your own photographs and then have them printed out on canvases of all sizes, as well as personalised gifts including phone cases, cushions and towels, and delivered directly to your, or a loved one’s, door.

I take a lot of pictures on my phone but rarely get the DSLR camera out these days as to be honest, there isn’t much to photograph during winter in lockdown. Although phone pictures are fine, I wanted something which looked more professional so we went for our daily exercise in the form of a woodland walk and I took my camera along.
Well, you know what they say about never working with children and animals is absolutely true. They couldn’t help but get entirely covered in mud and pull silly faces, but that’s them all over so rather than drive myself crazy attempting to re-take them I stuck with it.

Asda Photo prices start £12 for 8 x 8 inch canvas.
Their canvases go all the way up to 32 x 32 inches with a variety of portrait/landscape and square options.
I chose a set of four square multi-photo split canvas prints; these cost £110 and £6.25 for delivery within two working weeks.

You can easily upload images directly to the site, or connect the Asda website to your existing Instagram, Facebook, Dropbox or Flickr account and import pictures from there. You can then crop and zoom within the app; it will warn you if you are to zoomed if the quality is likely to be compromised.
Of the photos I took, I chose four that I thought best represented my kids’ ‘cheeky’ personalities. Ahem.

The canvases actually arrived the following week via a courier and were well packaged. Each canvas comes with a hanging kit including screws, and wooden wedges to add tension to the canvas should you wish.
What did we think of our Asda Photo canvases?

Now, I admit I was very tired and a bit frazzled from homeschooling when I chose the canvases and I genuinely thought that the measurement was for the set of four, rather than each. When they arrived less than a week later I as slightly taken aback at how large they were; two foot square (60cm x 60cm) each!
Lockdown is definitely messing with my brain.

Luckily we have a lot of bare wall space to hang them and actually, they look brilliant and are great quality and were simple to hang.
The kids are so happy that there are more recent pictures on the wall – we are terrible at printing off pictures and most of the ones in the house were taken before they were born!
I will definitely be using Asda Photo to create canvases and personalised gifts from now on as the process is so easy, and I just love the end result.

These look fab! Love that you ordered giant ones – I’ve done that before oops 😂 x
Lovely photos Fran. Your children are very photogenic and appear to like posing which is a bonus. I can’t get mine to take hoodies off or to stop gurning( I’m assuming that’s not actually how they look). Great idea for grandparents who haven’t see rhem for so long.
They look awesome- bigger is always better right 🤷🏼♀️♥️
Great idea for christmas!
