This is a collaborative post: CBD has quickly become one of beauty’s biggest new commodities, taking over the beauty industry. Online stores like Cibdol.com supply everything from lip gloss to facial creams which contain CBD. But what is CBD and why is it so popular?
What is CBD?
CBD (Cannabidiol) is a natural compound that is found in the cannabis plant. It’s one of the 114 known cannabinoids found inside the cannabis plant; CBD, CBG CBN and THC are all cannabinoids, but they don’t all do the same thing.
CBD is simply a component extracted from the cannabis plant. Unlike THC, it won’t get you high, but it does have many other uses.
How CBD is used in beauty products
You might be familiar with top CBD tablets, but when it comes to beauty, CBD is mostly used in oil format. The ingredient is often infused with the product to unleash its benefits directly onto the skin. It’s currently everywhere right now because its benefits were only realised once it became legal. Before it was legal, there was little point in testing it on skin, as selling it wouldn’t have been an option.
So what can CBD do for your skin?
CBD oil in skincare has been known to work all sorts of wonders. The ingredient itself is thought to be an anti-inflammatory. This means any inflammatory skin conditions such as acne or rosacea can benefit from CBD being applied topically. It is although thought to have an analgesic effect, so if your inflammatory skin condition can sometimes be accompanied by pain, the CBD might help with that too.

Alongside the anti-inflammatory and pain relief properties, CBD has another effect on acne that can help keep it at bay. CBD regulates the oil production of sebaceous glands, which in turn can reduce the production of excess sebum and the likelihood of blocked pores.
CBD oil can be great for all skin-types – not just those with skin conditions. It works as a luxurious way to hold in moisture. Keeping scabs and lesions moisturised while they heal can reduce pigmentation and aid healing. This can reduce scarring from acne and hormonal spots, keeping your skin in glorious condition.
Another benefit of CBD oil (this ingredient really is an all-rounder) is that it has antioxidant properties. Using antioxidants on your skin can keep it looking brighter, as it reduces the effects of air pollution and free radicals. Take a look at cfah.org for more information on the benefits of CBD.
Are there different types of CBD?
Technically, there is only one type of CBD, but there is more than one way of extracting it. It can be extracted as a full-spectrum CBD or as what’s called CBD isolate. Although these methods extract the same ingredient, they don’t garner the same results.
CBD isolate works alone – it doesn’t use any other cannabis compound. This means it is unaffected by other elements of the plant, which is preferred by some people.
Full-spectrum CBD, on the other hand, uses these other components, which complement each other and work together. Full-spectrum CBD appears to work slightly better for pain relief. It has been suggested that this type of CBD might also provide more nutrients to the skin as there are more components of CBD to do the job.
CBD has a myriad of benefits, so whether you’re buying the facial oil in the hope to improve your skin, or you’ve just found out it’s in the new mascara you’ve bought, be prepared for some lovely, conditioning results.
