Making jewellery is a favourite rainy day craft activity here! Usually this involves threading beads onto strings, but Jelli Rez are a little different! The Jelli Rez ‘Style Me’ jewellery making kits make it easy for kids to create their own cute glitter jelly jewellery and hair accessories which they can wear or give to their friends.
We were sent two of the small Jelli Rez ‘Style Me’ packs to test out and review.
The Style Me packs come in four different themes; Text Me, Sweets, Animals and Fantasy. Each pack comes with a cardboard front that can be removed and recycled, leaving a plastic box which can be used to store the contents and stack if you have more than one kit!
What comes inside the pack?
In each of the small Jelli Rez jewellery packs you get:
- 2 x 15g bottles of special compound
- A large mould
- 3 x small moulds
- 2 x bowls (one small, one large) and mixing paddles
- 2 x plastic hair clips, a ring and a necklace
- 2 x glitter sachets and decoration sheets
- A pair of tweezers
- Instructions
The 30g of compound is enough to make one large and three small pieces of jewellery, or up to eight small ones.
How to make Jelli Rez jewellery
The kit comes with two jel compounds which you mix together in equal parts in a special measuring bowl.
You then add glitter, pour into the mould and add decorations, place the plastic accessory in and wait 15 minutes for it to set.
Once it has set, pop the Jelli Rez jewellery out of the rubber mould and your jewellery is ready to wear!
Jelli Rez is easy to use but I would definitely recommend adult supervision.
And probably a better adult than me, because our first attempt at making Jelli Rez jewellery went very wrong when we didn’t get it in the mould in time!
We made our first lot of Jelli Rez jewellery in extremely hot weather and it set almost immediately, before we could get it into the mould.
When making Jelli Rez jewellery, be sure to ONLY make one item of jewellery at a time, using the small pots to mix up small quantities and the large pots for larger jewellery. If you mix up more Jelli Rez than you need, it will set hard in minutes and once it’s set, that’s it.
Fortunately there was enough Jelli Rez solution left which we were able to mix up to make more jewellery and once we had realised the error of our ways we went on to make some lovely sparkly jelly jewellery!
What did we think?
It’s a fun activity and the end product is cute and can be worn which makes it a nice idea for a present that won’t take up too much space!
The jewellery is squidgy and jelly like, and is made to be worn, not played with (or it may fall apart).
It is just a shame that you can’t buy additional compound to make more jewellery from once you have the moulds and mixing pots etc. We were also left with more glitter and decorations than we needed. We won’t throw them away, but I’m not sure what else we’ll make from them!
