I absolutely love my Hotter boots; they’re so comfortable and over the last year I have been lucky enough to get several pairs which have seen me right through autumn and winter in both and are still going strong.

They are great for casual and more formal events alike; however the only thing that my Sandringham and Windsor boots are not great for is rough and muddy terrain.

As a dog owner who has to get out whatever the weather, my lovely leather boots just aren’t made for the job.

Hotter Rutland GTX® Gore-Tex walking boots are!

My newest pair, the Hotter Rutland GTX® Gore-Tex boots, on the other hand, are perfectly designed for wet, muddy dog walks. I was offered the opportunity to try a pair out, and I was happy to test them.

I went for a half-size down on my usual shoe size, from a 6 to a 5.5.

Previous Hotter shoes have come up big enough for me to wear a 5 comfortably, but I wanted to make sure there was room for some thick socks in there!

I would definitely advise going into the store to be measured if you haven’t been already; Hotter also do a half size on these boots and they are made to be worn for long periods of walking so it’s well worth making sure they fit properly. That said, Hotter do offer a no quibble return if you buy online and they don’t fit you perfectly.

The Hotter Rutland GTX® Gore-Tex walking boots are made from Nubuck leather featuring patented Gore-Tex® hidden technology which repels water from the outside to stop your feet getting soggy. They’re soft to the touch and I’ve found it easy to brush dried mud off of them.

Inside they are padded and for added comfort they have a cushioned ankle. The boots have a thick sole which is cleated to stop slipping.

They are really quick to lace up thanks for the D-ring lacing system which means they’re easy to get on and off; compared to my DMs they take a lot less time to lace up!

How to wear them

Well, obviously these boots are made for walking so the main consideration is that they’re practical.

However with the grey boot and black contrasting stitching I think they look great too.

Although usually I’d go walking in jeans, they would even suit a skirt and dark tights and like most Hotter shoes they are also available in different colours so if grey isn’t you think then there should be a pair that goes with anything.

How much and where to buy

The Rutland GTX® Gore-Tex walking boots have an RRP of £119 however they are currently on sale; check out the current range on the Hotter website or in the Hotter stores (see their Store Locator here).
