If you have read my monthly updates or follow me over on Facebook, you’ll probably know by now that I’ve very recently moved house (yes, again).
Moving house is not only one of the most stressful but also most expensive things you’ll ever do. It feels like all I do is fritter money away on a survey here, a solicitor there, and a skip hire or two not to mention all the things I’ve been desperately giving away that, given more time and inclination, I could probably have sold for a few quid on Vinted.
However there are ways to slightly mitigate some of the costs of moving, and one of them is to save money with Quidco cashback.
The great thing about Quidco cashback is that once it’s confirmed, you can withdraw it in any amount over £10, straight to your PayPal or out to a voucher which you can then use against things you need to buy like paint or wine.
Here are ten things related to my house move that I genuinely have, or will, be using Quidco cashback for.

1. Broadband
One thing it’s impossible to live without is the internet, so it’s a good plan to get it all sorted before the move. Quidco has a broadband comparison tool which shows the cost, any offers from the provider, and of course, how much cashback you can earn if you click through and purchase.
I ended up with an additional £48 in cashback which has already tracked and should be ready to withdraw around November – yes, it feels a long time away, but it’ll be a nice little Christmas bonus.

2. Home insurance
You need to have buildings insurance in place from the moment of exchange, because if something awful happens then you’re still legally bound to buy the place, even if it’s not even standing. Quidco compare home insurance compares different policies so you can save money – and get £34 cashback into the bargain, paid 30 days after the policy starts and of course it makes it easier for your to find the best deal.
You can read a post I wrote all about Quidco Compare here.
3. Life Insurance
Another important one; when you have a mortgage, it’s important to insure your life so if you happen to cark it, your family aren’t immediately turfed out to pay it off. There are several different providers which offer from £60-£2000 for a new life insurance policy. Definitely worth checking out.
4. White Goods
Sometimes you go from a house with integrated appliance to a house with none, and sometimes they are too much hassle to move – washing machines are notoriously tetchy – and it’s easier to leave them behind and buy sparkly new ones.
The buyers of my house are keeping our old dishwasher, washing machine and under-counter fridge, but I’ll need to get a new washer-dryer when I move. After a DISASTER of a purchase from Curry’s (I find washing machines work better without massive holes in the front) I got one from AO.com which offered next day delivery and 2.4% cashback too.

It’s not exciting (I’m not that old yet) but it is necessary.
5. Furniture
There are lots of benefits to downsizing – cheaper bills, easier to clean – but it does mean that a lot of the furniture I had was too big for the new house.
In addition, after two moves in several years, some of the furniture I have just won’t make it intact. Ikea, I’m looking at you.

I’ll need to get the kids new beds, as well as a few new units, a dining table, and perhaps a sofa bed for guest. There is a whole section for furniture on Quidco, where you can get up to 10% cashback from various furniture retailers.
6. Handyman services
I am a strong, independent woman, but I’m busy and I bloody HATE putting flatpack furniture together, so you better believe I’m going to pay someone else to do it.

TaskRabbit is an easy way to find people in the local area who can do that kind of stuff for you. If you’re new, and you book via Quidco, you can get £3.20 cashback. And TaskRabbit isn’t the only option; you can book everything from cleaning services to gardening via Quidco and get some money back on it.
7. Painting and decorating supplies
Some people love this part of the moving process. I do not.
However, the previous owners and I have very little in common when it comes to taste in decor – and the holes that they’ve filled in will need painting over so there will be a lot of rubbing down, sanding and painting in my near future. (If you are one of those strange people who just loves decorating, hit me up. I am sure we can come to an arrangement where I will drink wine and give you encouragement).

Earn 2% back from B&Q for and up to 3.2% back from Toolstation if it’s DIY tools you need.
8. Takeaways and eating out
It is traditional that, when you move and everything is still in boxes, to get a takeaway and eat it on the floor with whatever cutlery you can find.
Make sure you use Quidco to get up to 4% cashback on Deliveroo, 20% on Just Eat, or 3% on Domino’s (all new customer offers only).
No idea where the plates and forks are? Book at table at your local Toby Carvery, Harvester, Vintage Inns, Miller & Carter, Browns or Ember Inns pub instead, and if you book your table via Quidco you will receive 80p cashback just for turning up!
Once you’ve settled in a bit, and you’re bored of pizza, then recipe boxes like HelloFresh and Gousto can be a good way to make sure no one’s going to die of scurvy, without the need to go shopping or be really organised, and these usually have money off your first few boxes and offer good rates of cashback too.
9. Grocery delivery
Once you have unpacked the plates, cutlery and cookware, and you have a fridge, freezer and cooker all in place, it’s time to get that first grocery delivery. All of the big supermarkets offer cashback via Quidco on their home delivery services; if you’ve never shopped via Tesco before, for example (or you happen to have another email you can use to register a new account at your new address), you can get £8 cashback on your first order over £40.
Just make sure that i
10. Champagne
Once you (and your furniture) is in, it is of course traditional to crack open the bubbles. Make sure you stock up with one of the many wine retailers who offer up to 11.2% cashback!
