This is a collaborative post: Think of tiles, and you’ll more than likely think of walls and floors. But as much as using tiles on these areas to brighten up a kitchen or a bathroom might look great, there is a lot more than a good tile can go. Interior design is constantly innovating, and styles and trends change over the years. Right now, tiles are part of the current trend, and that means it might be time to shake things up in your home and make some changes. Read on to find how you can do it and why it’s a good idea.

Your Stairs 

Perhaps you shied away from the idea of tiling your stairs because they’re such a high traffic area and you know you would have needed to look out for spring cleaning tips for cleaning tiles (which is a lot easier than you might think, of course). Maybe you thought it was a fiddly job to get them installed. Or perhaps the idea simply never occurred to you. Perhaps now it’s time to think a little differently. 

Tiling the entire staircase might be something of a big job, but if you were to tile just the areas that face you as you climb up the stairs, that would make a huge difference and it would look supremely stylish. Or you could tile the top of the stairs, making it look good when you walk down. Either way, it’s a unique idea and one that is sure to make you smile. 

Your Fireplace 

If you have a home with a fireplace, you may already have tiles around it. The Victorians were particularly excited about covering the exterior of their fireplaces with something pretty. The trend continued into the 1970s, where it died out again. However, after almost 50 years, it’s back, and if your fireplace is looking rather bare, you can easily jazz it up by installing some beautiful tiles. 

The great thing about today’s tiles is that there is a lot more choice, and as long as you pick something that is heat resistant (otherwise it will crack or fall off the surround), then you can have any style, colour, or pattern you like. Some people even make their own. 

Your Bedroom 

Tiling your bedroom floor might work for you, although we would recommend that you also have a rug in place to keep your feet warm when you get up in the morning. However, there are other areas in your bedroom that you can tile even if you decide that you prefer your carpet or wooden floor. 

The headboard is a prime example of where tiles would look wonderful, and you might even decide to continue the design and include the bed frame too. In this way, even the most boring beds can look stunning and be entirely in keeping with your own particular aesthetic. 

There really is no limit on what look you could give your bed when you think about using tiles on it. If you’re looking for a project for you or the kids, this could be it.
