I am a huge fan of the MOOSOO robot vacuum cleaner which I reviewed late last year. Used regularly, it keeps the floors in good order and all you have to do is ask Google nicely to make it work. However with kids dropping crumbs and a dog shedding hair, mud being brought in and general family life creating mess, it makes sense to have a second vacuum cleaner to clean more targeted areas, vacuum the stairs and get into crevices – all of which the robot vacuum is unable to do.
I was offered the MOOSOO K17 cordless stick vacuum cleaner to review and after putting it to the test, here are my thoughts on it.
First impressions of the MOOSOO K17 cordless 2 in 1 stick vacuum cleaner
The MOOSOO K17 cordless 2 in 1 stick vacuum cleaner comes boxed with the engine/dust collector and separate, removable battery, 27-inch red aluminium alloy tube, a motorised floor brush with LEDs, a crevice nozzle, an oval brush, charging bracket which can be wall mounted if desired (but doesn’t have to be if you lack the space) and of course instructions.
It is very easy to set up and charge straight out of the box. The tools click on and off easily and the attachments can be used without the tube, for example for cleaning the stairs, sofa or worktops, or with it to clean floors or get cobwebs from ceilings and clean crevices.
My first impression of this stick vacuum cleaner was that it looks good; better than in the pictures online in fact. The black and red matt plastic casing and red aluminium alloy tube don’t look cheap at all compared to some more plasticky budget stick vacuums I’ve tested.
Features of the MOOSOO stick vacuum cleaner
The MOOSOO K17 cordless stick vacuum is really lightweight (1.1kg) so easy to push around – even a child can do it (it’s good to start them at their chores early I reckon!). It’s quite quiet compared to larger vacuum cleaners too, but just as powerful.
The LEDs on the motorised floor brush are a nice touch; the lights allow you to see underneath furniture or perhaps clean in the dark if that’s what you fancy.
The suction is good and the floor brush is effective at picking up dust, dirt and hair/fur from the floor. In one good clean of around 30 minutes until the battery needed recharging, the dust box was pretty much full. You don’t need to take the dust box off completely to empty it, as this can be done by unclipping the bottom of the dust box and holding over a bin.
There are two suction modes; press the button once and let it go for 11KPa suction and once more for 20KPa suction, which is useful if you switch between vacuuming hard flooring and carpet. You don’t need to keep your finger on the button, as with some other models of stick vacuum cleaner such as the Dyson.
The MOOSOO K17 stick vacuum has a 4-stage filtration system (HEPA, screen, metal filter and cyclone filter) to give the best suction performance. Large debris goes straight into the dust collector without passing through the filters, which improves the suction power. It isn’t as good as something you’d get from a commercial cleaning depot, but it works.
The filters inside come out easily – they need washing perhaps once a week and then every few months will need replacing to keep the suction levels optimal.
Final thoughts on the MOOSOO K17 Cordless Stick Vacuum
It looks good, it’s light and it does the job really well.
With an RRP of £139.99 (and available with a large discount online) it would be unreasonable to expect the same performance as a £500 Dyson stick, but for the price it does a really good job of cleaning and I would say that it is better than expected especially for the price point. I think it is the perfect secondary vacuum cleaner to whip out after a meal or messy play session.
