How to create a holiday experience from the comfort of your own home

This is a collaborative post: Going on holiday is one of the big family events that most of us look forward to every year. From the moment it’s booked to the second we step onto the plane, we spend months planning, buying new clothes & stocking up on the essentials.

However, this past year has been very different and with the latest government advice telling us to “be patient” when it comes to going on holiday, it doesn’t look like we’ll be jetting off anytime soon.

Don’t let this stop you having some family fun though, you can still enjoy that holiday vibe in the comfort of your own home with just the use of your imagination. I recently came across this Getaways Reimagined campaign by Chums and thought it was a brilliant idea. They’ve done all the hard work for you, coming up with four different types of holiday, activities to do and even the outfits you can wear on your holiday at home.

Have Yourself a City Escape

You may well be thinking “how could I possibly have a city break without actually visiting a city?”

Well, it’s actually easier than you may realise. You can still soak up the culture, history and architecture of some of the world’s most beautiful cities thanks to technology! Simply load YouTube and start watching the whole host of virtual tours available, all whilst wearing your best casual city break outfit.

You can visit a number of different cities all over the world, all in one night…something which wouldn’t be physically possible to do in real life. Why not grab a glass of vino and head to Rome for the evening or enjoy a romantic meal in Paris? It is all there at your fingertips.

A Beach Break

A holiday lying in the sun, feeling the heat on your skin and the sand between your toes sounds idyllic, right? And after the year we’ve had, a relaxing break is something we all need right now!

Although this type of holiday is probably the hardest to create, it is still possible. Crack up the heating and get yourself on YouTube where you can search for videos showing you tropical beaches of sun, sea and sand!

Now one of the most notable things a visit to the beach brings is the smell of the sea, so whilst your browsing these videos, you can really set the scene by using candles, incense or essential oils that will take you back to your most memorable beach moments.

Why not create your favourite cocktail and dress up in shorts and a t-shirt, a dress or even a bathrobe too! If you’re doing this, you might as well go all out.

How About You?

Have you tried to recreate a holiday at home during lockdown? If so, do you have any tips to share?

Head over to social and join in the conversation using #GetawaysReimagined.
