When you have a dog in your home, you should probably adjust your rooms as well to keep your furry friend safe. After all, you may have some things in your home that could be damaged by your dog or other belongings that may be hazards.

Living Room
It’s easy to leave random pens, small coins and other items around your living room, especially near your couch. However, you will need to remove these small items so your dog won’t put them into his or her mouth. On top of this, your dog could chew your pillows or furniture, so you should protect them as needed.
You can protect your furniture as you train your dog to not bite them. If that doesn’t work, then you should use bitter spray to discourage your dog from biting on those objects. Doing so will help you to protect your belongings and keep your dog safe.
Bedroom
Your bedroom could also pose some dangers for your dog. For example, some people will leave jewelry in spots that their dogs can get into to and others may leave their clothes around the room. If this is the case, you should leave your jewelry and clothing in spots that your dog can’t reach.
If you don’t want your dog on your bed, you should get a taller bed that your dog can’t reach. You should also leave your bedroom door closed if you have anything in it you don’t want your dog to get into.
Kitchen
Remember that the kitchen has a variety of supplies and foods you need to be mindful of. You can’t leave your cabinet doors open because your dog may get into chemicals that he or she should stay away from. You also need to pay attention and pick up any food you may drop on the ground.
Dogs can’t eat grapes or chocolate. This means that you need to immediately pick them up and any other foods your dog can’t eat to avoid any problems. In short, make sure you stay vigilant with what you leave open or drop in the kitchen.
Bathroom and Laundry Room
Just like with the kitchen, you need to avoid leaving chemicals on the ground, even if they are in bottles. You never know when your dog may bite the outside of your chemicals and get some of them in his or her mouth, so you need to keep your chemicals high up. You should also be mindful of where you leave your clothing in the laundry room.
Some dogs will drink out of the toilet bowl, so you should keep the bowl and door closed to avoid letting your dog in. Otherwise, he or she may end up slurping the water out of your toilet.
Basement and Garage
Basements and garages are also dangerous areas for dogs if you don’t maintain them or keep them clean. Insects and spiders could easily get into your basement and garage, so if your dog goes in those areas, he or she could get bit or stung. On top of this, you could have other dangerous tools in your basement or garage.
You will always need to be weary of the garage, but your basement will depend on its condition. If your basement has carpet and it’s been renovated, then it could be a safe space for your dog, but a hard floor could damage your dog’s nails.
Outdoors
Everyone’s outdoor areas will be different from each other, so you should be mindful of your dog’s needs. For example, if your dog goes into the backyard a lot, you need to have tall fences to prevent your dog from leaving. You should also look out for holes or other ways your dog could get out of your backyard.
You should be mindful of any pesticides or weed killers used in your yard. You don’t want your dog to go outside during those times, so make sure you keep track of any spray you use.
You must create a safe environment for your dog to live in, so you need to dog-proof your home. On the other side, you also need to protect your belongings from your dog so you can live together comfortably. Due to this, you need to make sure you go through your home and properly dog-proof it.
